I must be stupid

Recommended Posts

I just had my third fill yesterday, and I tried to eat bread. OMG I got stuck and had to throw up. Seems like I would catch on, I tried to eat bread Monday and threw up 2 times. Yesterday all I could eat was soft foods. Why do I push the limits??? Now I have a sore spot in my stomach and feel kind of yucky:sick. I wanted to eat dressing tomorrow, but don't think I will. Why are we not supposed to eat solids 2 days after a fill?

Usually your stomach swells after a fill so thinks get stuck easier which makes us bring it up causing our stomach to swell more. Excessive swelling can make the band slip.

I just got a fill today, the day before thanksgiving. I love Dressing, and my mom always makes me my own pan and brings it over to me. I am so tight, I don't dare try it. grrrrr.

You love the band, but sometimes, you hate it too. lol.

I just had my third fill last Friday. Looks like I've lost bread, too. I also have to chew very slowly and pause between bites, or my pipes get "backed up", and I get tight in my chest.

The up side: I was perfectly satisfied with 4oz of ham on Thanksgiving Day (no sides, no dessert). Completely stuffed, couldn't eat another bite, just like everyone else.

I HAVE taken to chewing gum after meals, until my jaw thinks I should be full. It helps with the head hunger.

Trust me, you are not stupid....I'm the stupid one! Before my fill on Wednesday, I had good restriction, but being me, I wanted more. So I go get another fill, I want to be tighter, well I got my wish, and by Wednesday night, I couldn't even swallow my saliva. Thursday (Thanksgiving day) I spent the day throwing up and by Thursday evening, I was in the hospital hooked to an IV for sever dehydration. I had to spend the night in the hospital, now I'm back to ZERO restriction again because the doctor had to take my fill out in order to get me healed up. He said I irritated my pouch and stoma so he had to take me back to 3.0 cc's - where I have NO restriction. Talk about being stupid, its me!

A lesson for everyone, being too tight is not good. If you have restriction, and can eat healthy foods, stay there. I just figured because I could eat regular size bites of food, then I needed more restriction. I was at 3.8 cc's and he took me to 4.0 cc's - Now I feel like I'm starting all over again, it took my 9 months to get to a good restriction level. I am so mad at myself!

lessnless,

be very carefull with the gum! When I got my post op instructions from the nutritionist they said absolutely no gum, the reason being that if you accidentally swallow it, it may have to be surgically removed from the band opening. For me it is not worth the chance of having to have more surgery. I am now using mints.

jpayton - when were you banded? I was banded on August 1 and still haven't gotten a fill. You already had three?? My Dr. said that because I lost 29 lbs. already I don't need a fill yet. Have you lost alot of weight? Three fills since when? I'm dumbfounded!

I had the same question, about how in the world do you get enough Protein without the protein drinks? ? I was banded 8/29/07 and have lost 35 lbs since surgery, and I have been using one Protein Shake a day (30 grams) and still I was losing my hair, so i upped it to 2 a day along with my two other meals ( I use one of them for breakfast) and now my Hair loss has slowed down. I can only imagine what it would be without the Protein Shakes at all. How can that be.????

Hey everyone - I was banded on August 1, 2007. I have been back to the Dr. twice already and both times he did not do a fill explaining that I had lost the amount of weight I should have ( 29 lbs. ). He says 1 or 2 lbs. per week is exactly what he wants me to lose. But now I'm reading about all of you getting 2 or 3 fills a few months after surgery and I'm confused. My Dr. said that if I get a fill when I don't need it, it would be a waste cause when I really do slow down on my weight loss I won't have any fills left and I would be on my own to lose the weight. Can some of you explain to me why you are getting so many fills already? I feel really confused about all of this. Thanks!

cQQlgirl, How can one even begin to get near 90 grams of Protein a day without the Protein drinks? What did they say was the reason for saying NO PROTEIN drinks at all?

He wants me to eat food rather than drink because it keeps you full longer. I really didn't question him because it seemed to sorta make sense.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
