Hi I’m Syrus 38 yrs old,Currently weigh 226.6 Lbs, Height 5’1. I started my journey March 28,2019 my second appointment to see the surgeon is October 3rd, I’ve done almost every test required just need a Stress Echo scheduled for the 27th of this month, a Cardiology clearance letter a Neurology clearance letter and my PCP letter wich won’t be a problem. My biggest worry is that I had a spinal leak in 2015 from an epidural and my surgeon needs that clearance letter from them . Soooo worried out my mind that they deny me....I’m literally almost there 2 more weigh ins 2- clearance letters and a Stress Echo exam away to see my surgeon to discuss a surgery date...

Welcome! Qualifying for surgery is based on your BMI... looks like you’re in the neighborhood of 42 which means you should qualify. Be sure to discuss this with your medical team. Ask questions . Let them know your concerns. Try not to worry about being denied until/unless that happens. Praying that all goes smoothly for you. Search the different topics on this site. Keep reading & learning!

Welcome! You're in the home stretch now!

Spinal leaks *shouldn't* be a problem/factor as general anesthesia is used not epidural blockers. Plus that incident was 4 years ago. If no problem occured since, you *should* be all clear.

Neuro usually will clear you if you talk to your practitioner first so they know about surgery and your plan. My Neuro cleared me no problem for my original VSG and wasn't needed for my RNY (I had a spinal leak over a year ago from LP and had to spend 8 or 9 days in the hospital. It was a non factor when I needed to schedule my revision surgery as it was an isolated event)

Good Luck 💜

I'm a bit late to the party, but welcome to the site! Catching a cold or the flu before surgery has been one of my concerns too. Have you talked with your nurse? I have my bariatric nurse already assigned and she is walking me through all the stages I need to get through. She'd be the first one I'd ask about a cold, or allergies, or anything like that. Best of luck and congrats on getting your surgery date!!!!!

Thanks for ur feedback as I am in this journey with no support 🤦🏻‍♀️ They haven’t assigned a nurse for me but I do hav a PreOp Appt on the 22nd and I guess I can bring it up then. My son is sick and I’m so afraid I’ll catch it. I took tea and I feel much better but I just hope I don’t catch anything.

You've got all of us on the board for support, Syrus. I know it's not the same as having local, in-person support, but it is very supportive here. Go out on the threads. There's a thread for almost everyone, and if there isn't one that interests you, create one. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
