Caffeine

Recommended Posts

I weaned myself gradually off it. 1/4 Decaf, 3/4 caffeinated for a week or two, then 1/2 decaf, 1/2 caffeinated for another week or two, and so on until I was just drinking decaf.
I started the 1/2 & 1/2 yesterday, my consultation was on the 17th..so far headaches hasn't been to big of an issue

I started with Decaf, but some brands make me sleepy. I switched to Yerba Mate after I saw a documentary discuss how caffeine taxes your adrenals too much. So the knowledge of that and alternatives have helped me. Herbal tea with cream/artificial sweetener is my fave alternative.

I am not having fun coming of caffeine before surgery. Probably after the headaches go away I will be fine. Then the artificial sweeteners will be next. I have 2 months so I am sure I can do this. I am not required to do a liquid diet b4 hand. I might do it anyway just to prepare my liver to shrink down. I hope I have not gained since last visit. How did you do in breaking your caffeine addiction?

I've always been lucky I guess because when I gave up sugar, I never got the sugar-withdrawal headaches that everybody talks about and giving up caffeine was easy too. Now two years post-op I still do everything sugar-free and caffeine-free.

I weaned myself off regular coffee a couple months before surgery. Per Kaiser bariatric’s guidelines, after surgery we cannot drink beverages with carbonation (due to gases), caffeine (acid/risk of ulcers), alcohol, and sugary drinks (liquid calories). Since I started the pre-op program (July 2019) I haven’t had alcohol or surgery drinks. I DO have half-caff coffee every morning. ;-) and throughout the day Water, diet Snapple, and herbal tea. I don’t miss alcohol or carbonated beverages.

I don't know why, but I never had any trouble coming off caffeine or sugar, which is weird because I LIVED on sugar. Just lucky I guess. Hang in there, you're doing great, planning ahead. You'll do fine.

Me either Jaelzion! I have a latte with the high Protein nonfat fairlife milk for Breakfast every morning and it’s amazing. I can give up candy, Cookies, bread, you name it, but I love my lattes!

Does anyone else think the decafe version tastes different than the caffeinated version of the same thing? Even the decafe version of same brand and flavor of tea is not the same.

I’m not addicted to caffeine, but I do enjoy diet ginger ale. I like to have 2 cans with dinner. But that’s it. I drink Water, diet Snapple, diet lemonade, and most things non carbonated all day long. Just at dinner, 4 days on average a week, I like my ginger ale. I’m preparing myself to wean off the diet ginger ale.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
