15 pounds in 4 weeks is awesome! That's almost 4 pounds per week. Why are you worried?

I lost 16 lbs the first four weeks. And I've lost 100% of my excess weight (over 200 lbs)

I think a lot of people's perceptions of weight loss surgery is based on shows like "My 600 lb Life". Don't forget those people start out with MUCH higher BMI's than the average weight loss patient, so of course they're going to lose a lot faster - at least at first. Other factors that can influence rate of the weight loss are age, gender, metabolism rate, whether or not you lost a weight pre-surgery - I'm sure I'm leaving some out. But the lesson I learned was NOT to compare myself to others. Most of these things you have no control over. The only thing you DO have control over is whether or not you stick to your program, and to be honest, that's going to have a MUCH greater effect on your eventual success than your rate of weight loss will. If you stick to your program, the weight WILL come off, whether fast or slow.

btw - 60 grams of Protein is a pretty standard requirement for bariatric patients.

Ok everyone I am worried. I have only lost a total of 15lbs in 4 weeks is that even normal? I do a lot of walking and my Protein intake has been 60gm per day. But I lost 4 pant sizes. My doctor says yo slow down on the Protein.

((hugs)) Now quit watching My 600lb Life. LOL. Totes UNREALISTIC.

Normal weight loss is between 2-4lbs per week. So you are on the upper edge of normal. Congrats! Keep doing what you're doing. Aim for between 60-80g of protein per day. You need some days of higher protein here and there especially in the early days of healing.

I felt the same way you did. I lost 16 pounds my first month and was freaking out because some people drop like 30 pounds in the first few weeks.

Needless to say, I am at 16 weeks out and have lost 75 pounds. It's a cumulative thing when it comes to weight loss and surgery. Some people lose fast, some slow, some lose steadily.

You are doing amazing.

well obviously the more overweight you are the more weight you will lose at first..so a 350 pound person will lose more weight then a 250 pound person..doing the exact same diet..

I’m about to start week 6. I’ve lost 20 lbs. It is hard not to be discouraged. Some of the same feelings I had before surgery are coming back. Wanting to eat for comfort and the craving of the carbs is getting worse. Trying not to giving in, but did eat some chocolate ice cream. This was not a good idea now I just want more. Getting in 48oz of fluids is something I work at daily. Otherwise I feel good exercising 3 times a week for an hour.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
