My need to do Pouch reset.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, my name is Carolf5 and I am here to say that I have made the mistake that I originally said that I would not do.

I originally had my Gastric Bypass surgery on 12/17/2012 and I lost 287 pounds-fast. The following year I was still losing and then the next year my face looked like a skeleton and I needed to add a bit to it. So, I was told to add some carbs back into diet-ended up being a big mistake. I ended up gaining a lot back to the carbs-mostly crackers.

I tried to stop and found it too hard to do so so, now I am going to do the pouch reset and hope that helps me get rid of the carb problem. I will have to get rid of all carbs completely. Definitely no crackers. I should have already done this. My main problem is that I work the night shift at our busy hospital and so my eating schedule is all turned around. I work on our busy Cardiac floor where I do blood draws and EKGs along with patient care. big problem for a bit is that we have been overly understaffed and that has put a lot of stress on me. The biggest busy time is from 4am to 7am where I do the blood draws, EKGs, weights, vital signs and also people need to go to the bathroom, etc.. Big stress time. I am 69 years old and for me it has gotten to be a big bit. I am trying to make it through this year before I try to go down to 72 hours or to another floor-for my sanity and stress.

So, today I am starting my pouch reset. Need to go to Walmart this morning for some Jello and frozen popsicles. I have frozen dill Pickle Juice pops for any leg cramps-it works.

Onward I go. I now currently weigh 200 pounds. My original weight before surgery was 308 pounds. I got down to 145 pounds and then gained.

Good luck Carol! I hope the pouch reset works well for you!

My story is looking a bit like yours. I had sleeve surgery last year and have lost all my excess weight fast. I'm starting to look a little emaciated and want to stop the weight loss and even gain a little weight back. So I've been indulging in those carbs that I said I wouldnt let back into my diet - breads mostly, but also saltines and graham crackers. I don't want to regain a majority of my weight back though so I need to do something different!

Stick to it! Don't let this control you . . . you've got this! You worked too damn hard and lost too much damn weight to let it take over you now. You can do do this! Going back to basics will get you on the right path.

when I wanted to put the brakes on my weight loss (and even gain a little - I, too, got a little skeletal looking for awhile), I added in mostly healthy fats to increase my calories - although I did start eating a few complex carbs (like whole grain things), but only small servings because carbs can trigger binges. Like others have said, go back to basics - Protein first, then non-starchy vegetables - but then when you get to the point where you want to level off again, try to avoid unhealthy carbs. They are a trigger for a lot of us. You are definitely not alone!

You have the tools and know exactly what to do. You can easily do it! You got this! But remember what is really important... your happiness. I like the second picture of you the best, may not be the lowest weight you’ve had but it looks like you’re smiling! :) that’s where you need to be, happy!

My wife had RNY about 9 years ago and works the overnight in our local hospital. She has found beef Jerky and those P3 Snacks to be a lifesaver for eating at work.

Hello, fellow cracker addict. I had to cut out refined carbs, wheat, grain completely. It took years of not being able to get off the last 30% of my excess weight. I feel so much better after cutting that out. I do have dry roasted almonds when I need to crunch. They are my Protein for a meal. Very satisfying.

Good for you for coming here and telling us about it. You are on your way!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
