Problem with liquids at 6+ weeks

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, first post. I had a terrible first day after surgery because my pulse was too low to give me pain meds. Second day I felt pretty good and never had to take any of my pain meds at home. Felt really good, drank really well. Went back to work (retail) after 5 days. Everything had been mostly great until I started eating real food again the past couple weeks. I'm not eating much, but I am suddenly having issues drinking. Iced tea with Splenda seems to hurt now as does PLAIN ICE Water. It actually seems to hurt the most of anything. At the moment my best drinks are sugar free Gatorade, but it still hurts more now. Anyone have experience with this? I have my 8 week checkup in 10 days but think it's odd that I feel worse with my liquids now than I did the first 5 weeks. I'm losing well, but I am struggling with the liquids now. I would say I feel slightly nauseous all day long, every day, now. Anyway, thanks for any help anyone can offer. Just looking for possibilities.

Could be inflammation yet, everyone heals differently, or you might have had a hiatal hernia repair and it is stitched tight, or a stricture - it does happen.

Try warm liquids first, followed by only room temp, no ice.

Upset stomach from milk products also can happen early out, or you could have some reflux - see about taking a PPI. If meat is an issue back down a stage and wait - your body is not ready yet, do soft fish, or sauce with the meat - fat free gravy, broth with the meats. It takes awhile for healing and the muscles to relax. Hang in there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
