My team gave me some guidelines on how much food your pouch can handle at various stages of post op ie. 1/4 cup up to three months. Is it the same for Protein Shakes?

Well liquids seem to drain through at a faster rate but a 1/4 cup sounds pretty close to Target!

I'm 1 week post-op and I can drink 4 oz. in about an hour.

I'm 9 days post-op and it takes me 15 minutes to drink a 10oz shake and I try to take longer than that. But I also know I'm having a pretty easy time with all this compared to others.

we were never given a limit on liquids - they go through you pretty fast.

I keep thinking something is wrong with me because I can drink faster. The first two days, I couldn’t. Now I can. I broke it, my sleeve is broken...🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 but seriously, should I count my blessings or be worried?

Count Your Blessings, my dear one. I have a RNY pouch, which I named Precious Pouch, she is as inflexible as wrought Iron. I would ❤ to move past 2-3 oz at a time! I have a Bariatric Clinic appointment next month & I will be 11 months out, planning something up to and maybe including a full- scale tantrum. What can it hurt? They have been ignoring me and my requests for help or someone to talk to, so there is nothing to lose.

I was allowed to add sugar/calorie free flavors to any liquid that I drank.

The confusion may come into play if some here had bypass and some had sleeve. Bypass patients are typically able to drink faster than sleeve patients.

You probably need to get 64 ounces Protein in per day if your plan is the same as mine.

When I drink Protein Shakes it does count as Fluid as well as protein.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
