Is a pouch reset diet okay to do simply when you don't feel much restriction anymore, but aren't actually gaining any weight? Will it be helpful in any way to bring some feelings of restriction back? I'm finding I can fit a lot more in lately and I don't like it. lol. I was going to do a modified "pouch reset" of Protein Shakes and a hardboiled egg for 3 days, then purees 2 days, then soft solids for 2 days.

Try it! Let us know! You're about "on schedule" for pouch healing which allows you to naturally be able to eat more. Which is why I've always been so militant that the "everything in moderation" is a lie for most of us--cuz soon 1 piece of pizza turns into 2 or 3. :(

Dr. Weiner has YT about it.

I do a Water fast for a day or two--or a Bone Broth fast. I'm starting one today as a matter of fact. I ate healthy foods this weekend, but way too big of servings. So now it feels like time to fast. My pouch always feels more sensitive after that fasting. I may add back Protein Drinks as the next stage.

So it would be 2 days Clear Liquids (broth, water, decaff black coffee, decaff teas).

2 days of Protein drinks + clear liquids

2 days of purees/mushies + protein drinks + clear liquids

2 days of softs + everything above

start adding back foods.

I was looking at that schedule and that's "basically" what I am doing except I HAVE to have some protein because of my exercise - I'll pass out and die otherwise. lmao. So, Protein Shakes in the beginning. Going to mess around with it this week and see how I feel!

I noticed I was able to eat an entire half can of pinto Beans mixed with a half can of zucchini last night without paying attention and I was like aaaaaaaaaaaa! The fullness is definitely disappearing. I want to restart and start being more conscious again of measuring, which I had stopped because I felt like I was eye-balling correctly (and I was for a while).

Yeah, it's the insidious nature of "the beast." Right? You start making only tiny changes that maybe only amounts to 90cals per day. Think of that...there are studies that show the regain weight in normal obese individual who do a calorie restricted diet and exercise only have to change their diet to include 90 extra calories (about 4 bites of food), to have a regain. *smacks head*

So yeah, for me, since I know I will inadvertently or on purpose add those 4 extra bites...I have to weigh and measure. *sniff*

Yeah, def with the exercise you need that protein!!! Since I'm only walking--I think I will be ok on clears for 2 days. Plus it helps that I got hold of some bad veggies yesterday that made me hurt all night and contemplate the ER. So I think giving my bowels a break will actually be a good thing. I'll do Bone Broth for some of it so there will be collagen Proteins.

I think also, that you might try more dense Protein? I know I can eat a boat load of veggies, especially if they are well cooked (like canned zuccs). Dunno about Beans, cuz I can't handle the carbs in half a can, the most I do is probably an 1/8cup now and then?

But last night? I was able to eat about 5oz of dense meat: 2oz cod, 1.5oz sockeye salmon, 1.5oz grilled rare ribeye. 😯 I was horrified!

But I wonder how the mysterious metabolic reset plays into effect against this study.

Although I understand everyone is different and has to be diligent in their own way.

I don't think these people (from my memory) were fasting or doing a metabolic reset. But I can tell you with me? If I overeat my macros I WILL gain weight and gain weight quickly...but maybe I'm just a very broken metabolism?

Oh, totally. I usually do eat denser Protein, but I have a TONNNN of canned veggies and was like "I have got to start going through some of these" so figured the Beans would be a bit of protein with the zucchini. I did NOT expect to be able to eat that much and was mindlessly munching. I usually eat about 3-4oz of dense protein at a time. SOMETIMES I have eaten up to 6, but like twice? I don't feel so terrible eating a lot of non-starchy veggies, but I hope that this "reset" helps with some of the restriction again so I can measure things out and not be hungry!

I've had one soy shake today so far (it's 1 here) and I am hungryyyy. Going to have a boiled egg for lunch and a shake in the afternoon. Been drinking a lot of Water and tea but unf.

Yeah, I am going to have 2-3 Protein drinks today (soy protein isolate) and one hard-boiled egg for lunch. Possibly a yogurt in the evening. Going to do that for 3 days, then wean off the shakes to some purees.

Just some smooshy/liquid stuff right now so there's no fullness or stretching.

Yeah, I think that's one of the criticisms of doing the pouch reset--that now days, Protein drinks provide little if any satiety.

You could always try using psyllium powder in them. :) I do that sometimes and it does fill me up. I make a banana joe from cocomo smoothie (frappacino) using Bananas and Cream Premier Protein + Decaff coffee + Ice + (sometimes cocoa powder extra dark) + 8g Now Psyllium Husks + liquid vanilla or chocolate stevia. Then I blend the crap out of it. It's almost like oatmeal lol. And very filling. But that kinda defeats the idea of the reset maybe?

Yesterday I had two hardboiled eggs, two Protein Shakes, and a yogurt. Down over a pound (although I'm sure that's Water weight, lol). So far today I've had one shake and one tiny egg white... thing. Planning on one more shake, another egg, and a yogurt.

Wow! WTG! How's your satiety? Any new sense of "small pouch day?" Congrats on the pound! How much Protein do you think you got for the day?

Down another pound! lol. I don't feel very hungry at all. Honestly I could stick to this indefinitely if I knew I didn't need to get some more carbs in, lol. My two Protein Shakes equal 50g of Protein + 14g of protein in 2 eggs + 24g of protein in a cup of cottage cheese (which is what I did yesterday) so... 98g! And virtually no carbs.

I definitely don't feel full or totally satisfied by the end of the day, but not uncomfortably hungry, either. And I had a very intense workout last night and felt completely fine.

Wow! That's awesome! I figure your lack of hunger is that you are in pretty deep ketosis (fat burning) state. :) Causes a huge decrease in hunger! And I also figure no satiety from the shakes. But do you feel a sense of "heaviness" that is new when you eat the hard boiled eggs or cottage cheese?

It's interesting, you know, my pouch has always felt like I had a larger capacity. But the 2 things guaranteed to make me feel like I have a "normal pouch" are hard boiled eggs (no seasoning--especially salt which blunts satiety and increases the pleasure hormones) and cottage cheese! :)

How much volume of cottage cheese are you eating per serving just out of curiousity? Do you feel fuller with it than before?

I'm on day 2 1/2 of clear liquids. I'll add in clear protein drinks tomorrow. On Sunday I was 138.8lbs and today I'm at 135.4lbs. I'm excited to only be 2lbs up from my posted lowest weight and feel like I'm finally on track to hit 130 and Goal #3. :) Hunger is manageable. Yesterday had a cup of HerbOx and a cup of Bone Broth with a tiny bit of butter and 2 sugar free popsicles.

Add to this my gut really needed to heal, since I think I got food poisoning from a bad grilled chicken salad or bad cucumber on Sunday and I've felt really miserable for the last 2 1/2days.

Only walking here...

Cudos to you and thanks for tracking all this! I have a theory that although a reset may not actually affect the physical size of the stomach, I think it may provide a hormonal switch/reset on your gut-brain axis and affect our perception of satiety. :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
