Willingness to treat you and follow up after out of the country surgery depends on your doctor, and does vary greatly doctor to doctor. You need to consult with your primary care physician to see if they are willing to do this, and if not, find a different primary care physician before your surgery.

I had excellent care at OCC. With Dr Ariel Ortiz. Obesity Control Center. JCI accredited. Tijuana. I'm an R. N. And did tons of research

Yes, he is the one I would chose if I needed to go to Mexico. Excellent choice!

Thank you! That's who I have been researching I'm really drawn to them. Seems very experienced, I see a ton of people have gone through him. You're reconfirming my decision.

I think this is such a potentially bad idea. I get when your insurance won’t pay and going to Mexico but to have major surgery knowing you don’t have insurance for follow up care is crazy. What if something goes wrong, even people with the best surgeons and medical care have complications. I 100% get wanting the surgery, but why not wait until you have health insurance so you know you can seek care without going bankrupt. Plus you are way more likely to seek care early because you know you will get billed.

I had gastric sleeve with great results, I now want Lipo in my arms which has been a lifetime issue even when I’m at my ideal weight. Any lipo surgeon suggestions in Mexico?

I went through Pompeii Surgical in February and I’m loving results.

Great to hear that - I've got my surgery lined up there on July 2, can't wait! What kind of guidelines did they give for walking/exercise etc for the first two months?

@Katieshmay: My insurance doesn't pay for bariatric surgery, but wherever you go should offer phone follow-up for a few months so you can ask if something is normal or needs a doctor. I would recommend staying in Tijuana or wherever you end up for longer than the minimum (usually 2-3 days) just in case a problem does arise. Your surgeon will take care of it as part of the package, versus going to a hospital or doctor in the US and needing a second mortgage to pay the bill.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
