13 months post op and struggling with nutrition

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I'm new here!

I had VSG 04/18/18 and have lost approximately 90lbs. Down to 245 from 335. While this is great, my goal is to get down under 200 by 18 months post op.

I struggle with how many carbs to eat, calorie intake. I track everything on Baritastic, but I'm not sure my numbers are right as I haven't truly lost much at all the past few months. My nutritionist that was at my surgeons office left, and they do not plan to hire another one- she was my biggest ally in all of this journey. My surgeon sent me to a weight loss center, but they told me huge numbers and I did it for 4 weeks and it did not cause a loss.

Any ideas on what I could try that may help from others with this experience? I am so thankful for the 90lbs lost, but I know somehow I can lose sooo much more!

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on 90 down!

I’m years out. I had to dial in my weight loss calories and macros using my food app. If you are interested in how to dial it in, let me know. It will be specifically to where your body starts losing weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
