Scale weirdness

Recommended Posts

I'm about a month and a half out from my surgery, and I've lost 43 lbs. My scale number on Friday morning said 315 lbs. This morning, it was 317-318. Think this is just normal fluctuation?

My diet hasn't changed, and I'm getting in my 60-80 grams of Protein a day and all my Water. I did try something this weekend that I ordered from the Bariatric Pal Store, the guilt-free brownies that have 22 grams of protein in them per brownie.

(Could only eat half a brownie at a time)

I still ate under 700 calories per day. Weight gain makes little sense to me at this point unless it's just fluctuation or retaining a bit of water

Are you still young enough to be hormonal? Maybe monthly Water retained?, Yeah it should be okay, we all fluctuate, now if it were 20 pounds, somebody would be spanking YOU. We are all human beibgs, don't sweat all the small stuff, you will tie yourself up in "Nots". not this, not that. Just live and let IT go.

Don't think I've got the right equipment to get hormonal that way :P I'm 31 and male, after all.

Yep, it's normal. It freaked me out the first time it did it because I knew I couldn't have possibly gained weight.

Hi I am doing the same thing. My surgery was 19th of March and I have lost 33 lbs. Got on the scale two days ago and weighed 3 lbs less and this morning 3 lbs more. I am going mad and yes I did check my scale and put new batteries in it. Not hormonal I'm 66 years young. I did have really extensive surgery all open (58 staples) so my activity is restricted to walking until I see the Dr. in June. My Protein is 60 gm. and I drink Water all the time. My diet is now regular and introduce new foods slowly. My caloric intake is about 400 to 700 as tolerated. I do feel a little hunger now but not ravenous and limit my portion size. What is the average weight loss per month? Am I just beating myself up over this? I appreciate any help.

How long did it last? I've been stuck between 320, 321 for like 2 and a half weeks.

I weight 292 one morning and then gained back to 296. I stayed there for almost 4 weeks. Then it took me a month but I've finally got to 286 which is 52 pounds lost in 11 weeks (today). I was convinced I would never lose another pound, but I just think I lost so much so fast that my body needed to catch up.

I bet you will start losing again, but for some of us, it takes awhile.

Good luck!

Had a surgery twin , male , he dropped and just seemed to go on and on. Meanwhile I was just chug A chugging. Sorry about my attempt to change your gender, it would have been easier to tell you. that you were premenopausal. But unless you were having Sympathy Pains, that sure doesn't hold up with 31 and Male. Oopsie on me!

Rassin frassin. Used the bathroom when I got home yesterday, weighed 316 afterward. Weighed this morning, 318.

Yeah, I think I'm in a stall.

I'm having the same issues. I am 2 lbs heavier today - the scale just keeps going up and down 2 lbs and has done the last couple of weeks.

Does anybody know why the stall and how do you get out of it. The first two months I lost 34 pounds and now for two weeks have lost nothing. They did move me to a full diet introducing 1 food at a time, but I have not been interested in trying anything yet, so I am not doing anything different just can't loose any more. This is so frustrating!!!

My stalls are not stalls where the scale stays the same day after day - I fluctuate up and down when I'm in one.

This is my month so far - as you can see, I've been stalling since May 1st (green asterisk denotes a new lowest weight). I weigh every day - there is still a downward trend when you look at the big picture - but I like the stats and info from daily weighing. I factor in Protein, liquids, bowel movements, period, ovulation, calories, activity (all are on this page, just not in frame for the pic).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has the scale jump around on them!

Wow, that's crazy seeing it there in black and white. I'm glad I'm not the only one this happens to!

Well, stall broke. Got down to 312. Except now up to 314 this morning. Fluctuation is weird. Damnit, I just want to get below 300 already.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
