Rants and Raves become NOT for newbies

Recommended Posts

I, for one, would find it unbearably obnoxious to face a "warning screen" or "pop-up window" EVERY SINGLE BLEEPING TIME I want read a post in Rants and Raves. I also note that Rants and Raves-type comments frequently are found on other types of threads as well. For example, this thread is in "Suggestions, Feedback & Questions." So I don't think a "Warning Page" would solve anything.

I find it shocking that people feel that they need protection from a little robust bantering. Frankly, I'm embarrassed for anyone who feels that way. I think you are being ridiculous.

Fortunately, when this type of thing has come up before, the owner of this site has had the wisdom to tell people, in essence, to "get over it," and to just ignore anything you are not interested in. I fervently hope he continues with that approach.

I totally agree. Geeze it's just R&R, it's not a freaking porn site......

Excellent point!!!

If you don't want to visit a thread, don't visit it for heaven's sake! Same thing as a tv show you don't like, or a movie you don't like. You don't like it? Don't watch it! Geez!

look, all im saying, is that a LOT of times, people find themselves there by accident, and its like a train wreck.

it is MUCH like a porn site..in that inside are people behaving in a way that isnt acceptable in any other format, and not everyone wants to be exposed to it.

This is a place for suggestions, not rnr...It was merely suggested and i support it, and i think its a great idea.

What if when you signed up you get to put a check next to the forums you want to take part in - and this could be changed whenever - so really you can only the ones you wanted to and asked to see. That way old or new you can make the mature choice for yourself.

Ditto. The fact is, if anyone "accidentally" goes into RnR, it's only because they aren't paying attention to what they are doing. Even in the "new threads" section, the forum that the thread is in is clearly identified on the right side of the screen. So unless you've clicked before looking to see where a thread is or clicked on a link someone posted in another thread, you're pretty darn safe.

There used to be a function in the control panels where we could ignore entire forums, but I don't know if we still have it or not.

I found the ignore threads option but not the ignore forums - seems like the easy option to me then nobody can complain if they 'accidently' (yeah right) end up in a forum they don't want to be part of.

I don't know why this is such a big deal. If you accidentally go in there you don't have to keep reading. No different to a porn site... you very quickly know you're in there and it just takes one click to get out again.

I, for one, think that making access to the RnR forums limited is basically hand holding of people who are old enough to make their own choice as to what they read. If you are mature enough to make the life changing decision to get the Lapband in the first place then you are mature enough to decide what posts you want to read and don't want to read. When you enter the RnR forum you are not automatically thrown into each and every thread and bombared with peoples thoughts, opinions, rants, raves, etc. whether the topic is "inappropriate in your mind" or not. You see titles of various topics, you are NOT required to click on them and if you do then be aware that you could read something that you may personally find offensive. Ignorance or lazyness of not paying attention to what forum you are in and what thread you read is no one's problem but your own. If you step into the street without looking both ways and get hit by a bus - is that the bus driver's fault? I don't think so.

Making the RnR forum something that you would have to specifically ask for registration with would absolutely inundate the site moderators with unnecessary work.

A newbie thats posts something like "help I'm having the lapband and I have a bunch of questions, etc, etc, etc ..." when they get no response will then realize "hmm perhaps I'm not posting in the right spot" and if they don't ... that is their problem for not learning how to read and research around the forums before making their post.

Who are WE to decide who should have the right to participate in certain forums? I've only been around these forums since approx. July and have less than 60 posts (I think) and generally choose to read more than I choose to post. I am old enough to vote, buy cigarette's (not that I smoke), buy alcohol, and even porn if I so choose and I am mature enough to make the decision to have the Lapband done. So who are YOU to tell me what I can and cannot read, and if I read it and don't like it then I can chose to not read it again, that's no one's issue but mine. Last I checked this is a free Country...

If you don't like the heat - stay out of the fire.

This post is not aimed or directed at anyone but is an expression of my opinion. When I state "you" I am not singling any one out.

haha, I'm really not! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and the ability to share it. And if I do not agree with someone's opinion I will never attack them because of it. However, it is very easy to misinterpret someone's tone and intention in text which is why I added that little statement =)

Amen Sister - There has been WAY!!!! Too much of that going around here lately, wether it be by newbies, oldies, tweenies, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Both in and out of the Rants and Rave area which this isn't by the way despite the tone of many of the posts. And NO I am NOT being passive aggressive by not listing the names of those who are behaving more like this is RNR than the Feedback & Suggestions forum, I am only being too lazy to look for and list everyone (including myself after this post) but if anyone chooses to claim that I am I promise I will start screaming so loud my co-workers will be thinking its time for the nice little white men to visit me. Good grief the people making the passive aggressive accusations frequently come off looking even more passive aggressive than the person who they are responding to. I can't wait for the holidays to get over and for the members of this board to start behaving a bit better. ARGHHHHHH!!!!!

Here comes my opinion if it counts at all.

IMHO - If you don't like a certain thing, stay away.

I'll put it this way. In every grocery store I can think of, the alcohol section is right by the produce. I don't know why it's this way, maybe carrots go good with Pale Ale.

Does anyone ever complain about the setup?

Do you get offended when you pass through to get to the next isle?

Sure you may pass through the different forums on this site, but it is clearly marked the "alcohol" section. (just for clarification in this case alcohol=RnR):biggrin1:

While it is there and you clearly don't drink, do you pick up a bottle and throw it on the ground to protest it's existance? I don't.

There are certain area's of this site I don't frequent, and there have been a few times I have felt offended about something, but I guess i am one of the few that ACTUALLY feels "to each his/her own"

If you don't like it, stay out. If you are going to complain, stop reading.

Don't go to the adult store if your not into body butter, fuzzy handcuffs, 'n porno. And if you do make it into the store, why are you complaining about whats in there?

I'm finished now...:censored:

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket. I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
