Almost 5 weeks out and feeling constantly nauseous

Recommended Posts

So I started on soft foods... and ever since I have been so nauseous like morning sickness lasting all day. TMI after 3 months finally got my period. My body just feels terrible overall feeling weak, so emotional, and tired. I am trying to be active but when I walk and such my heart starts to race like crazy. Idk if it is just me everyone I know seems to be doing fine post-surgery, but I've been struggling bad. I don't even care about losing weight at this point I just want to feel better. Even drinking Water is hard, its like I am regressing rather than progressing. anyone else experience this?

Yes! I have exactly the same problem. I am 4 weeks out and no longer able to tolerate purees or liquids. Constantly feel like I am going to throw up. Saw my Surgeon's PA yesterday who ordered an emergency upper GI series and it turns out I have a stricture!! They are going to do an endoscopy on Tuesday to try to stretch the opening between my pouch and intestines. I had RNY gastric bypass btw. Don't wait, call surgeon's office Monday if you're not feeling better.

I went to the ER (cant even remember but sometime this month) they did a CT scan and turned out normal they did say I had a (Can't remember will ask my partner [spleen])) Doctor said it is harmless. My brain is all clustered. I had the sleeve and honestly I am having so many regrets at this point, I am terrified of food now. At least when I was on liquids I was getting by on Water. I have an apt may 1st, and I am in the middle of my college semester and really need to get good grades. I have been doing most of my work online already missed 3 weeks. So will they have to do another surgery for you?

I remember the day of my surgery having a heavy feeling in my heart not to do it and here I am really going through it. I really do hope everything turns out well with you.

I'm so sorry that you're having trouble at this point. I've read where some people have a similar situation as yours. I was lucky and never had the first problem with any of it. Good luck and I hope you get better soon.

I am trying to find posts and see peoples updates but can't seem to find any. I have its just an adjusting thing and nothing serious.

Thank you

Hi, Iliana00000, no, at this point I don't think I need another surgery. Just an endoscopy to stretch the stricture. I dont think you get strictures with the sleeve because they don't reattach your intestines. I hope you'll be ok. Maybe your surgeon will have some ideas tohelp you feel better.

Only from the medication they have me on - Carafate. How many ounces of fluids are you taking in a day? Maybe you're dehydrated

Have them check your Iron levels, my mom had a Switch put in and after a while she was constantly eating ice. ended up being very iron deficient and needed IV.

So ice pics is a symptom of low Iron levels? That is a good thing to know, hope that mother is better now.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
