Wind knocked out of my sails

Recommended Posts

I had my 6 month follow up today and everything is great, had a couple questions and got a couple answers, etc.

But then...

I asked for my goal weight at my next (9 month) appointment. It was only 9 pounds from where I stand today. I was very (unpleasantly) surprised.

Now, I acknowledge that I'm a few pounds ahead of the goal curve, but to see that the loss was going to slow SO dramatically that I should only expect to lose 9 pounds in 3 months... that was a punch to the gut. The momentum I've built these last 6 months means everything to me. I'm not mentally ready to let it go. It's been bothering me all day.

They work off of averages. Nothing on earth says you need to strive to be average! Rock on!

It's quite rewarding when one exceeds their own golds or those set by others. Don't be afraid to set your own goals.

I think they may just be playing it on the safe side so that the goal is attainable. What will actually happen is up to you. If you lose more than they ask for, the more you and they will be able to Celebrate your success.

Yep. Apply yourself. Bust the goal. :) And the good news is, there's little pressure on you from your doc. Cuz you can lose 9lbs in 3 months easily, right? :D I'm a slow loser, and lost 15lbs during that 3 month period - just fyi.

You guys are the freaking best. You're right! I still have control of my actions and choices and I'm GOING to lose more than 9 pounds over the next three months.

Thanks for gently guiding me out of my own pity party!

BUST IT! Just like the preop where they 'suggested' I lose 5lbs...I lost 11.

if you are close to goal it gets harder. mostly they don't want to stress you out.

This. Treatment teams don't need to put additional pressure on their patients when it comes to post-op goals. Patients put enough pressure on themselves already.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
