My personal thoughts.

I have the sleeve. I lost 120 in six months. The rate and amount of weight loss can be different than what the statistics say. I liked that my intestines are not altered. The only draw back is many of us don’t get dumping syndrome. If sugar is an issue you may want to investigate a procedure( like bypass) where your intestines are altered and sugar will cause dumping.

Whatever procedure you choose it all comes down to following your plan and behavior change. Bariatrics is not the easy way out. Its work.

Depends on your own personal situation but the bypass is the more aggressive and better for long term weight loss. There numerous pages to read but one thing I must say is SLEEVE can cause reflux or GERD where bypass will fix it and many patient's end up having to be converted from SLEEVE to bypass anyway.

I'm choosing bypass because it will help me as it's more restrictive and reduces absorption of calories but there's alot of scientific information out there! So Goodluck!

Bypass. I've had both and bypass is working much better for me. Much more restriction, no hunger.

I had bypass due to having GERD. I follow the diet to a T mostly and never feel full or restriction. The few times I’ve eaten something sweet or not on plan, no dumping or any discomfort. I’m pretty discouraged because feeling full on a small amount was my intention with having surgery. I eat my dense Protein first, etc so I’m just a rare case. Since I do follow the plan I’m down 49 pounds since December 3. Do a ton of research.

I had bypass because I suffered from GERD prior to surgery. It's gone now, as is my type 2 diabetes. The sleeve may make GERD worse. Bypass is considered the "Gold Standard " but there are many, many successful sleevers here. Do lots of reading of the posts here. Good information is available. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
