Measurements and hunger post op?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

Ever since surgery ive been trying to feel full but i’m not feeling full at all no matter what i eat so i was worried and googled it and found out that I dont feel full because of nerve damage in my stomach so i’m supposed to be measuring everything (2 oz per meal) I didnt know this and i’ve been drinking a full cup of milk, a bowl of Soup, pudding, a Protein Shake and a bunch of stuff and sometimes all at once. It’s been all liquids so i thought that maybe its all just sliding through and thats how it fits but after reading all that stuff online im very worried. I cant feel anything but if im supposed to be eating/drinking 2 oz per meal and ive been doing at least 10+ oz something must be wrong right? Or is it different for liquids? Thoughts?

Liquids pass through pretty quickly, and I can't imagine you drinking enough to cause the kind of pressure that would result in damaging your staple line and causing a leak. How quickly are you getting that 10oz in? Are you chugging it or sipping it over 30 minutes?

When you move on to more solid food it is absolutely imperative that you stick to the volume amounts set by your surgeon. That won't move through as quickly and damage could occur. But also you want to get used to that amount so you don't overeat your calorie limits.

After you're completely healed, this ability to drink a lot will come to your advantage in summertime and in situations where dehydration is a risk.

I think I drank them in about 5-10 minutes. I'm realizing that my surgeon has told me literally nothing and I'm learning everything on my own and from the internet. I know it's my responsibility to ask him but sometimes I don't know what to ask and I barely see him for a few minutes and he runs off. I'm scared my stomach stretched and ruined the whole purpose of the surgery.

I still get hungry after my surgeon told me I wouldn't. I just eat what I think is about a cup of food and I eat several small meals a day.

Try not to google and self-diagnose. It will give you anxiety. Anything medical complications should be diagnosed by your Dr.

I didn’t feel satisfied until real food stage. You are right, liquids to soft foods don’t stay in your pouch long. Are you getting your 60 to 100 grams of Protein? Are you logging in a food app or tracking it by hand from food labels? Protein is going to help with hunger.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
