10 months, is it over or a stall?

Recommended Posts

I had a VSG in May 2018, so about 10 months ago. My weight loss has slowed significantly since December. Is the honeymoon period over, or could this be a stall?

Hi there,

Congrats on doing a great job losing that weight. That's outstanding work. None of us are in a position to really know how much you're still capable of losing. However, given that you have already lost more than 70% of your excess pre-op body weight, it's fair to say that the days of rapid, seemingly effortless weight loss is over. You can still lose more and reach your goal weight, but it may take longer to lose the weight than in the beginning and it will probably require a lot more work on your part. The last 20 pounds is always the toughest. I am at that point too (although I am only 3.5 months out--but different situation). I am only 15 pounds away from my goal weight, but I only lost 3.5 pounds over the past month. It's better than nothing, but even losing that 3.5 pounds required hard work on my part (strictly following my diet and hitting the gym daily). You may need to go over your diet with your nutritionist to see if there is areas where you can improve. How much exercise are you getting each week?

Thanks for your response!
I didn’t exercise much over the winter season, unfortunately, BUT I have been walking about 6 miles most days for the last couple weeks. Doing that and not seeing the scale move much has been alarming.

Plateau

Any tips or experience for plateaus? I think I remember your before/after pics from right around the time of my surgery and you were quite the inspo!

Speaking with your team helps especially the NUT. They may have real guidance based on your particular needs.

Try changing/shaking up your routine to see if anything changes. But in my experience I removed things that have crept into my diet that I wouldn't have had if I was being super strict.

I had my sleeve the same day as you and I am in a similar position...it is very frustrating but I know (in my case) that it is due to calorie intake and snacking. I feel great but I still want to lose more weight. I have gained and lost the same 4-5 pounds since December many times. I am just trying to do my best each day and not feel too negative. Hugs to you!!

Congrats on your losses!! I found that I’d grown bored with being a hard ass and started loving my new thinnish life. I had to make a set of rules for inner teenager and put new groundwork down for healthy living and finishing the race. I shook things up, made it a new game and added IF to the mix. It started everything back in motion. These last 20lbs have been brutal determined work. Very slow progress with patience and grace required. Still not perfect! I have 10lbs to go to reach final goal. If I get bored, I just shake it up and invent a new game. 😂 we can all do this!!

There’s an if thread here but I’m on my cell and a total derp on knowing how to share links on iPhones 😡hopefully @GreenTealaelWill do that?

im kinda doing advanced Jason Fung stuff now, but began with time restricted eating windows and add caloric restriction. I’m also a long term over. 🤪

But people should start slowly, have the blessing of their team, be able to easily get all their Protein in with food, and IMHO, be 6-moths post op with no surgical or health issues.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
