Thanks!! That is what my husband says as well. I have to look at it as part of the procedure. I understand why its necessary but when you hear that others didn't have to preop it makes you wonder/question if it's really necessary!!!!!!

My debit card looks like a who's who of fast fast food and my favorite restaurants. I have owned the bodybugg for 2 weeks now just to get a baseline of how I lived before being banded on Dec 18th. I was shocked that I burn 3500 calories a day so I must be eating more than that. I am a self pay so the voice in my head keeps saying "what if this doesnt work".

I started out drinking slimfast. The first night I dreamed about ham, steak and fried chicken. The next day I could swear I smelled meat cooking as I walked across the parking lot.

Then I went home and had a can of cream of potato Soup. After all the cold liquids, something hot was very tasty. Just choose things you like, I made homemade oyster stew one night and fed the oysters to my dog. It was very good to me. I had to do liquids two weeks before surgery, and then they postponed me a week so I've had another week now. It's not as bad as you think. just think of the goal ahead, and it will be worth it. I know I'm SO ready for tomorrow!

My pre-op was protien shake for Breakfast and lunch and a protien meal for dinner. I was allowed 4-6 oz. of protien and a half cup of vegetables. It seems every doc has a different idea for pre-op.

I also am supposed to drink 64 oz of Water a day. This for someone who is lucky to drink 6 oz a week, was a stretch. What I did was each time I felt like I was starving I made myself drink a bottle of Water. Then since I knew that my new life would dictate that I couldn't eat for 30 mins after water I wouldn't let myself do so. Usually by that time the hunger was gone. The only time it wasn't was when it was truly time for my next meal. I guess that's what they mean by head hunger vs. true hunger.

I don't know if that was a lot of help but my experience.

I can hardly believe that my surgery is happening on Thursday. I am a self-pay, so I got scheduled quickly once I made the decision to go for it. I haven't been perfect on my two week pre-op diet, but I've lost 12 pounds! That was even with Thanksgiving and one week on vacation! I started thinking that I really don't need the band, that I can just do this on my own. DUH! How many times have I said that before, and then lost, then gained it all back plus some. Like a lot of you, I am looking forward to the band, but I have some mixed emotions too. I'm a little scared of complications, scared of being sick, and scared that it won't work for me. I am going to keep busy the next two days and look at some recent pictures of myself that are awful! I'll keep posting and reading all of your stories and thoughts. :nervous

My date is set for the 31st and to be honest, I'm not sure I can go thru with it. I've been on a diet for 10 days now and lost 12 pounds. I'm just really scared of it right now.

We have all felt like you are feeling at some point along this journey . . . but you have to remember we are doing this for OURSELVES . . . and a year from now we won't even recognize the person we left behind! We are making ourselves better and making our lives better .. . and oh my I'm sounding so "know it all" .. .sorry . . .but that's my feeling and I'm sticking to it! :) Hang in there!

Lost in LS and Justin,

It is normal to be scared - you don't take surgery lightly.

I was terrified and even as I was being given the anaesthetic I kept thinking why am I doing this? Even now 3 days after surgery I am asking myself the question, but then I look back on my journal and realise exactly why I am doing this and how this will make my life better.

Have either of you started a journal - I find it theraputic to write down my thoughts so that I can look back and say either "what a load of cr*p" or "I still think that way". My blog address is below if you want to take a look, but I truly think that if you have got this far you have decided what is best for you.

Good luck

Danna:D

Good luck for your surgery - although I am sure everything will be fine. Let us know how you are when you get home.

My surgery date is 12/17/07 and my preop consists of a Diflucan on the Friday before (to prevent female infection), a colon cleanser on Saturday afternoon with nothing more to eat of course and stop all liquids early Monday morning because my surgery is Monday afternoon.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
