Struggling with pre op diet

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Im new here getting a lap band next Friday but am on day two of pre op diet milk shakes and 1 meal a day and I’m finding it really challenging. I can’t stop thinking about food and I’m really hungry and grumpy not very good company at all. I find the fact that I still have to cook meals for my young kids very difficult. I am so worried as I’m finding this so tough so goodness knows how I will cope post surgery on just liquid! Any tips on getting through the next few weeks? Many thanks

First few days are the hardest by far. After a couple days, it becomes sooooo much easier

It"s only 2 weeks or so post-op, so you can do anything for 2 weeks knowing the overall goal and outcome. Hang in there.

Do the best you can, anything helps. I know it was difficult to stick to it for a week. Best of luck!

It’s a challenge, no doubt about it! Many times I wanted to grab something quick and unhealthy, think8ng “oh this won’t screw anything up”, but I always convinced myself to do the right thing. My cheats were healthy cheats, like salad, or no bean chili, controlled portions. I was honest with my doctor about my cheats and thankfully it didn’t screw up my surgery, but it could have if I didn’t do right by the preop plan. Remind yourself that this is the beginning of a new life and relationship with food. I know I have a food addiction, and that’s a struggle in my journey, but if I don’t get control, all this was for nothing, and I’m not going to let that happen.

Talk to your doctor or nutritionist too; my nutritionist recommended a couple of things to help with my hunger levels, and it did help. Remember this is a tool, but a tool is only useful if you know how to use it.

best of luck!

It will, some things become second nature, and with each pound. gone, the life energy gets stronger, hopefully the pain starts moving out, and you say I AM THAT STRONG***I WON'T GIVE UP NOW***And maybe like many of us you will declare " Best Thing I Ever Did For Me" oh my recovery has not been what I expected, but I can say with the rest it is better what I still go through than the sick, defeated obese and ready to give up and die old lady I used to be. i wish the planets had been in alignment and my AhA moment would have come sooner, I don't know how much life I have gained. into will live each moment with resolution and gratitude, that this 73 year old was even given the chance, many programs would not have touched me even if I were covered in sparkle dust or had $20bills sticking out of both ears. God's Richest Blessings on Ohio State University and my wonderful surgeon Bradley J. Needleman MD. May they continue to help others as they have helped ME!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
