Hunger Pangs, But Not Hungry

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 1/24/19. Over the past 10 days or so, I’ve been noticing hunger pangs within an hour of eating, but I know I’m not physically hungry. I’m consuming mostly Protein at this point because I feel terrible if I don’t get enough of it, and there’s not enough room for protein AND carbs at this point. When I first started experiencing this, I wondered if my sleeve had emptied quickly and I was experiencing legitimate hunger; however, if I try to eat something, it becomes apparent quickly that I’m not actually hungry, and that my sleeve still has quite a bit in it. Anyone else experience this as well? Any suggestions?

Could this be the head hunger I have been hearing about? I get hungry but that is always around the time it is time for a meal or a (healthy) snack. You could always drink some milk (cappuchino mmm) or maybe take some cucumber? A little bit might be satisfying enough to quiet it down for a bit?

I don’t think it’s head hunger. I don’t even have an appetite. But my stomach will growl and kind of hurt like it’s empty... when I know it’s not.

That's stomach acid. Are you on a PPI?

I take 20mg Prilosec OTC once a day. Didn’t take anything prior to surgery other than an occasional tums or Pepcid.

I did just chew a Pepcid in addition to my Prilosec because I was so uncomfortable this morning. I did notice a bit of improvement. I also know that my gallbladder is acting up. I’ve had 2 attacks in the last month. Currently working with a surgeon to wrap up testing and see about having it removed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
