November 20th and a nervous wreck!

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am new to this site, so I hope I am doing this right. I am getting "banded" on November 20th, Tuesday. I know I am doing the right thing, but I am a nervous wreck. Any words of wisdom? Anyone getting this done on the same date?

:help:

Hello all! Thanks for your responses. I have such mixed emotions...scared, but ready to get it done and move on to a new life!!! We will have to keep each other updated! I have the cupboards loaded with high Protein Drinks, etc. I am going to spend this weekend cleaning, etc and be ready to go!!! Think positive...that is what I keep telling myself!

HI all

I am scheduled for 11/21 and am also getting very nervous. I can use any words of wisdom at this point, I have been on my pre-op liquid diet for 19 days now. I have lost 22 pounds on the liqud diet and lost 36 pounds during the 6 month prep and waiting, Having done the day before Thanksgiving is bothering me. The thing that makes me most nervous is going under anestisa and having a tube in my throat...yuch

Guys you are not alone with these thoughts. I was so anxious prior to my surgery that I couldn't stop eating... lucky my dr didn't need me to do a pre-op diet. It's now over 2 weeks since my banding and I feel great.

You will all do great! I was so nervous too right before. It is the best thing you can do for yourself. Overeating is an addiction and the band allows you to get control of your compulsion and live your life again. You won't regret it!!!! You will be sore for a couple of days, but the pay off is completely worth it. Congrats and good luck to everyone.:clap2:

I was told by the dietician to cut down about a week before the op which I kind of did but that's it. Maybe the blood test showed a healthy liver... never did ask. Just glad I didn't have to do the Optifast prior... my willpower at that time was not the best. Good luck with it, it will definitely be worth it in the end.

As to the tube down the throat, I've been intubated for two different surgeries, and both times it was put in and removed while I was out, so I have absolutely no memory of it. So, I think you can not worry about that, at least. :)

I am new to this site also, and I am going for my surgery tomorrow, Nov 19th. I cant wait for it to be a week from now!! I am not really nervous about being banding, more just about having surgery, and being put under. I have had anesthesia once before when I had my endoscopy, but I have never had surgery. Yesterday and today I have been on a "clear liquids only" diet, and I am doing ok with not eating, but I am feeling kinda crappy because of lack of calorie & Protein intake I think. All-well, I'll feel better next week, and years from now, it will really be worth it! Good luck to everyone else who is being banded around Thanksgiving! I am shipping my fiancé over to my parents house so I don't have to smell anything cooking in my house.

Hey all, I'll be banded on 20th too. I am on no pre-op diet but i've been down the low-cal highway before, so I'm not worried about cutting down my intake. I'm just abit worried about how long my body will take to adjust to the new low, low,low cal lifestyle because I have exams in the next two weeks. I'm looking forward to interacting with you guys.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
