Preparing for 2 week liquid diet😬

I had to do the 2 week pre-op Protein Shakes and it was very hard for me but I was like you and had all of my "supplies" (Jello, broth, sugar free popsicles, and of course my Protein shakes) beforehand. I lost 17lbs from the 2 week pre-op diet alone but it was difficult and knowing what I know now, I don't think I would have started earlier than I was required.

I feel you on not doing it too early if you don't have to because of the food restrictions that follow the procedure. I just know that the easier I make it on myself the better off I will be for the two weeks before. I haven't done full days just cutting back on my solid meals through out the day and learning how my body feels when it is truly hungry and not just wanting to chew.

I just discovered that peppermint tea is an awesome appetite suppressant! I have been drinking it in place of coffee in the morning to cut back on calories (heavy cream) and caffeine. Late into the morning I wasn’t feeling hungry and was shocked. It was the tea.

The test runs did prepare me for the pre op diet. I am on day 5 and doing well. I have been able to not be hungry and extra cranky. I have been low energy and my sleep has been off but aside from that things are going well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
