Beef in soft food stage?

Recommended Posts

I made a stir fry for dinner with thin cut eye of round and stir fry vegetables. I figured it would be ok since chili with ground beef is ok. However I just looked in my post surgery binder and for soft foods stage it says (in all caps!) AVOID ALL BEEF PORK AND VEAL. I’m kind of freaking out! Did I totally mess up my sleeve and am I in for some more pain????

I ate beef, turkey, and chicken with in 2 weeks of getting surgery. Granted i could only have 3 bites and i was full. You should be fine. I never had any problems at all.

that is going to be different for everyone. I did not eat any meat other than chicken the first six weeks and stuck with soft rotisserie type. A friend who had surgery two days after me was eating roast at three weeks, a little indigestion and Constipation, but no other issues. Listen to your body. it will tell you what it likes!

When I first read your title I thought it said "Beer" instead of "beef." LOL! I think you're okay. One little mistake isn't going to ruin the whole process. I am 8 weeks post-op and still having trouble with beef. Hamburger and steak are "dense" and aren't settling down well, so I am avoiding them. That's okay, plenty of chicken and salmon for me.

You'll be fine. Everyone is a little different, just make sure to chew it until it is mushy and really soft. I am 9 months out and I still have problems with chicken making me nauseous. I can eat beef, pork, fish without pain. My favorite is shrimp and scallops.

Thanks everyone! I’m feeling fine 24 hours later so I guess it really was no biggie. I just got freaked out when I read AVOID ALL BEEF in my binder! 🤣

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
