Migraines? who suffers like me?

Recommended Posts

i went a whole year taking lortab's, when one of my doctor's finally told me that the codiene was causing headache's, also tylenol is a big culprit.

speaking, or i should say typing, of Migraines, i'm having a horrible one right now, and i just took a maxalt 2 hours ago. DAMN IT!! I'm sitting here at work trying to figure out what i'm going to do to make it through this. my shoulder's are on fire, and the pain in the top of my head is excruciating.

I do really well on topamax. I take 150mg, divided dose (100 at night, 50 in am). I also take imitrex at onset, though maxalt has helped me too. If its a tension thing then I take flexeril or baclofen. Other things that have helped with knots in the neck include lying flat on my back and using only a rolled up towel under my neck for neck support and then having my head flat on bed. Heating pad on knots, lidoderm patch on them, etc. But yeah, sometimes you have to go in... They have zofran that disolves under the tongue for nausea. It works pretty well.

I've had lidocain up my noise before in doc's office and that helped. Less side effects than demerol.

Bandster I am soooooo sorry!!! Since it has been 2 hours can't you take another maxalt. Imitrex you can retreat after 2hours. Take another then take a break and close your eyes for a few....and hey if you can't go to the can and sit on the toilet for a few!!! Plus, looking at the computer screen is not helping!!! Of course you know that so I don't have to tell you!! Get well!!

Kyethra, it is funny you should mention the lidocain up the nose. One thing I do if I have a really bad one is get flexal or any other mentolated cream and rub on the bridge of my nose, right under my nose, under my eyes, and on my temples. The mentol makes my nose and eyes run like crazy cuz it burns like crap! But it helps the pain. Or maybe it takes my mind off it, who know. If any of yall try this trick, be CAREFUL!!! Don't get the stuff on any mucus membranes, like the inside of the nose or in the eye. Also one of the main ingredients in that stuff is aspirin so don't use a lot and don't do it if you have medical reasons you can't take aspirin.

I just took another one. it's not helping. my boss said i should go get caffiene (we all have them around here)...i can't get awy from my computer. it's hurting. i have a feeling this may become a fill routine. i don't do well when i can't have food. not to mention the liquid diet for me tends to have WAY more sugar. next time, i'm buying muscle mile. screw this gatorade crap. damn, damn, damn. i'm hurting.

i would think the mentholatum stuff is a distraction. i've been wanting to try the head on stuff, but i haven't yet. anyone tried it?

topamax did nothing for me. except give me side effects.

Yeah I fully maintain that topamax is bad. Sorry to those it is working for, but for me I really wanted to remember coversations and be able to drive again with out the fear of forgetting where I was and with out the fear of passing out!! I worked with a really nice lady who was a homiopathic freak and she swore by head on. I haven't tried it so I can't give you first hand advice. Since your are drinking gatorade I guess I won't recommend replenishing your electrolytes since you are already doing it. Yeah my head does not do well with the liquid stage either!!! Ummm, you could try banging your head on a door frame, or hitting your temple with a rubber malet.....lets see what else have I tried......you could try jabbing a pen into the offensive eye that is hurting. I am running out of solutions here.

Oh wait I just thought of another one....I used to tie pantyhose real tight around my head....pressure seemed to work temporarily.

Just watch out for when you take them off cuz all the blood comes rushing back and it feels like you eyeballs are going to explode:eek:

I think we are getting onto a new topic here "what stupid things have you tried, to get rid of a migraine" maybe I should post this as a new topic!! LOL I think I might!

actually, it is really ironic that you say that. i started having Migraines at the ripe age of 12-that's how the discovered i was anorexic.....went to the doctor for headache, left with a year full of scheduled counseling, individual and group, had to get stuck once a week..blah blah. i was so pissed at my mom for telling them that i didn't eat..ha..now i have the opposite problem.

anyways, i have always had a habit of hitting my head when i have headaches. i once told a doctor of it, and with my particular migraines, my brain swells, i used to take verapamil for it, but i hear that is bad, so i don't know. well, when i would smack myself on the right side of my head (always on the right), pretty hard more than a few times, it would make me feel a little dizzy but it would get rid of my headaches.

i still have a habit of doing that..dh HATES it. drives him batty. i can't do it at work, they will refer me to anger management or something.

the maxalt has helped my head, now if i can get rid of this radiating pain from the part of my spine joins my neck.....

oh dear god, i'm going home to day, lying on a heating pad and saying to hell with dh and ds..they can fend for themselves. darvocet here i come (hope it doesn't get stuck).

i only live 2 miles from work, so i'll make it..but thank you .

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
