Abs andweights workouts

Recommended Posts

Quick question, How long were you told you hold off on working out your abs or using weights? I can't remember, but I am getting board with cardio only and am getting really flabby around my mid section:nervous.

originally i was told 6 weeks, but then at the 2 week follow up they said that if you are done laproscopically that you can begin in 2 weeks, but to take it easy and remember to exhale while lifting.

My doctor told me 4 - 6 weeks. I started a very light workout with weights (light weight and only one set of 10) right on 4 weeks after surgery and have been very slowly building it back up ...it is now 6 weeks after surgery and I am back to 3 sets but not at the weights I was doing before surgery.

I went back to the weight machines right at 4 weeks. It seemed likeI was killing myself on the treadmill. Plus it is easy for your body to plateau using only one method of exercise. I am not near where I used to be befor the surgey, but I have only used the weights 3 times in the last 5 days since being at 4 weeks. I also got brave and got on the eliptical machine the other day for the first time. Of course I was too heavy for the 350lb maximum weight limit prior to surgery. It didn't kill and it ws kind of different so I won't get bored withthe treadmill. NOw situps I think I will wait a little while longer for them.:hungry:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
