Catheter? Weird question...

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is 12/04. I went to my nutrition and exercise education class today and they were talking about what is going to happen to you in surgery. They mentioned a catheter. I was wondering if someone can tell me if they had one and if they put it in before or after you are asleep. I prefer after but am just curious. Thanks!

I did not have a catheter during my banding nor my recent gallbladder-ectomy (done by the same surgeon, in a very similar procedure).

I doubt you would need one. It's such a quick procedure, and they'll ask you to tinkle (and perhaps require a urine sample - they did with my GB but not banding) prior to wheeling you out of the prep area.

I just had my surgery November 12th and I did not have a catheter. I wish you the best. :clap2:

I had my surgery on Nov 9th and yes I had a catheter that was inserted while I was asleep. And those of you out there like myself who have personal piercings....they removed mine..:) I told them about it in preop prep area and they said it should not be a problem but they did remove it after I was asleep.

My catheter was not fun I hate them, can't walk with one in very well at all. So was happy when it was removed the morning after my surgery.

I was told before surgery that a catheter would likely be inserted after I was asleep. Once I woke up, they told me they did not use one.

I had one inserted after surgery (couldn't pee on my own for some reason those muscles weren't working). Honestly I was on so much morphine it didn't hurt. I actually felt the pain of having to peee and not being able to, but didn't feel the catheter being put in or removed for that matter. I just had a straight cathetar put in, not a permanent one. The next day thankfully I was able to pee on my own.

I had one and they put it in, after I was out.

I had my surgery in the early evening and mine ended up having to stay in until the next morning - over 12 hours. I wasn't "producing enough" ?

I did not have one put in.

I had a problem the first night - could not pee. They said if I didn't go by the morning they would install one - thankfully I was able to go before then.

When I went for my pre-op appt, the nurse said they generally will not do one for lap-band. Whew! I guess that answers my question. Thanks to all!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
