I did get cold feet, but was only thinking about how life is going to be better after I lose the weight and everyone was feeding into that state of mind too. So as an insecure and I guess week person I took others advise and position as my own? And I do have regrets. So, I am not against surgery if it is what person deffinately wants, but I would say don’t rush it, if you have any questions, even if you think they are small, stupid questions, ask them, you can delay surgery, it is not the end, if you need more time it is ok to have more time. I know bunch of people will come for me for saying this, but If you have doubts, get them resolved before you do this MAJOR surgery. With that being said, I suppose feeling nervous is normal, as it will change your life completely and the unkniwn is scary.

Super normal! I was extremely nervous before surgery but happy to say that I have had zero regrets so far.

I too got cold feet. The last second questioning of what you are about to do. I just had to remind myself what got me to the point of making this choice. Go thought my mental checklist of why I am here. Remind myself that losing the same 60 lbs over and over again was not working towards living a full life.

For years I had thought about having bypass surgery but the insurance plans my employer offered didn't cover it. A couple years ago they changed plans and it was now an option. I was 4 months into the required 6 month process, had met and was approved by the psych doctor and was about to have my appointment to have the scope of my stomach done when my employer changed insurance providers again and it was no longer covered. After having to drop out of the program I attended different educational weight loss programs and different diets but still couldn't lose the weight on my own. About a year later insurance providers changed again and again it was covered so I jumped in and started the 6 month process all over again.

Needless to say by the time my surgery date got here I was so ready for it. I was not nervous at all, I was very educated on what to expect and had my post surgery plan all mapped out. I remember telling the dietician at my last appointment that I was going to become the "Poster Child for Bariatric Surgery". My preparedness and knowledge made the process very easy. I am very grateful for the path I was forced to take to have my surgery, I think it is why I have been so successful.

To make a long story short, do your home work, get smart on the procedure, diet and lifestyle so you are prepared the best you can be for this life changing surgery.

Good Luck and best wishes.

I was nervous about going under anesthesia but very ready to get the surgery. Absolutely no regrets! Best thing I ever did for myself. I feel like a new person 89 lbs down, 86 lbs to go. And I'm less stressed than I've ever been about being successful and staying that way.

I do regret how my body is acting now, didn't plan to have a PICC LINE and on Total ParenteI Nutrition 12 hours a day, but that is far from permanent. I am still a lot smaller than I was a year ago, lost somewhere between 50-60 pounds since my RnY 4 months ago, and never will I be ungrateful for the surgery and surgeon that made it som I am so much happier than I was before it happened. I just had a rare complication to it all, but between my 2 surgeons and myself, we are a team to get me better and I believe it will be happening, just a bump on my road to health.

I think younger people may have a harder time with it because you still may be thinking in the back of your mind that you can do it on your own. At age 50 I am absolutely positive that I’ve tried everything and that this is definitely my last resort. So any nervousness that I had is pretty much gone. I know that the worst thing that I could do is not have the surgery and continue to struggle every day with my weight. If anything I’m just excited now. 2 weeks to go!

I appreciate it, y’all! I think a lot of my reservations are coming from my family. They reallly don’t want me to do it. But I’ll continue educating myself and make sure I do what I feel is best for me.

You have the right attitude, Stephanie! You need to do this for you--your health, your future, your happiness. Don't second guess yourself if you know you want the surgery.

Jasmine, I could not agree more! I am 59 and will be having the surgery in February. I have lost and re-gained the same 60 pounds more times than I can could over the last 30 years. At my last physical, my primary care doctor told me that there is very little chance that I could lose a meaningful amount of weight and keep it off at my age without surgery. (He also told me I would have a massive stroke or heart attack in the next 10-12 years unless I did something drastic.) I'm nervous about the surgery and possible complications, but I have no doubt that it is the right thing to do. I just wish I had made this decision earlier so I could have enjoyed that many more years of health and energy!

I just had surgery yesterday and for a slight second I thought, "Maybe I don't need VSG." But I knew that was nerves talking, so I quickly dismissed it. I have a million reasons why I know this was the right decision for me. Even as I sit on the couch in discomfort, I still have no regrets. I hope that your family gets on board soon—and if they don't, remember that you have everyone here and also check with your hospital to see if they hold WLS support groups, as many do.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
