Lost my PB virginity

Recommended Posts

So I just get off work, very busy 12hrs in the ER, went to the store to get a few groceries for lunches tomorrow and I'm driving home. I reach over and grab a small piece of lunch meat , swallow...then Oh My Gosh!

Panic..I never want to experience that again! I didn't know if was coming back up or not! I kept swallowing and could feel it rise up in my throat, then go back down again, mouth started watering...just breath, just breath! Grab a grocery bag just incase! Do I pull over or drive..uug.

finally able to burp a couple small burps without puking...and it's over. Only lasted a couple minutes, thankfully!

I just kept thinking about what someone on the board said. They get this look on their face and people know!

I can laugh about it now, but holy cow, that was awful, I can't imagine that going on much longer thqt a couple minutes.

Live and learn, little bites and chew chew chew.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Lunchmeat is a big no no for me.... I don't really know why...

I had chili tonight with no problems!

Slowing down and chewing fully is still an issue for me at nearly 7 months out! I guess I'm just hard headed

GOOD LUCK!

Redantz:

A pb is a productive burp - something comes up. When something gets a bit stuck a pb will usually take care of it. It's not a comfortable thing, but it's not as gross as regular throwing up because it doesn't sit in your stomach and get all that acid in it too.

Good luck future bandster. I could pb every day and I'd still be glad that I did it.

Sue

So you didn't really PB? I mean if no food came up you didn't PB. You just got stuck. I hate to say it, but you are still a virgin. Don't worry honey it will come one day.

Oh yeah and the PB look is really funny. My husband instantly knows. I think we should start a picture thread of our "stuck" faces that would be really funny!!!

My band is very kind to me and doesnt restrict my lifestyle too much. But one thing I absolutely cannot do is eat without concentrating or thinking. That means never eat in the car, on the phone or at the computer. I now sit down and eat properly, and it helps a lot. Just popping something in your mouth without thinking is a recipe for trouble for me.

I had my first PB today :cry

I tried for 45 minutes to just stay with stuck and spit like a mad woman. I just started getting stuck last week for Breakfast when I would choose poorly. Today (after #4 fill) I got stuck on egg whites and turkey sausage.

Anyway, during the attempt, I felt it change and knew that I was no longer going to be able to keep it in. I have to say that this felt more like ralphing than what I had heard of a PB. Lost everything I ate which wasn't much. I am on liquids for the rest of the day. (Should I also do liquids tomorrow?)

I hate throwing up - makes me cry every time :think

I'm so good at NOT throwing up that I can't remember doing it since my son was born 14 years ago.

Oh well, it wasn't as bad as I expected and I survived it. I will certainly chew better from now on!!

I've PBed a few times -- almost every single time it was while eating something 'hand-held' -- I now use a knife and fork for EVERYTHING!

Also, I should do better at setting my portion size from the get-go....because there's no warning of when you shouldn't take the next bite. Just an "OH CRAP! I shouldn't have taken that LAST bite!" Hence, I need to SLOW down more between bites.

I don't know what my "LOOK" looks like, but I see something near TERROR reflected in the faces around the table -- I get lots of "Mom/Honey, are you alright?"

Hmmmm....my face is flashing white.red.white.red. There are tears in my eyes. My lips are clenched. My hand is over my mouth and I frequently raise one arm up over my head and stretch uncomfortably. DO I FLIPPING LOOK "alright"??

That's funny! I've been pbing regularly this week since my 2nd fill (can't seem to get the hang of this and/or am a glutton for punishment) And the most evident physical reaction, even when I try very hard to hide it at work, is a red face. I wonder how common that is! But this is really getting old...every time I eat, I literally have to close my door at work, crawl under my desk over the garbage can, and well -- you know! Ugh. :P(

Wombat since you lasted 45mins then threw up your entire dinner I would say you probably should stay on liquids for tomarrow too. Just because you want to let everything settle down-if not the whole day at least the first part. I think the rule of thumb is 24hours of liquids. From my experience of PB I try to get the stuck item up right when I feel it cause once I clear it out I am fine and what I have previously eating usually stays down. I think the longer you avoid your pb the more likely your are to completely yack up your whole entire dinner due to all the slime your body is producing to lubricate it. My advice is to just get the stuck item out and over with. A fresh pb is better than a pb that has been trying to come up, which you have been trying to force down, the more slime you swallow the sicker your stomach gets and wants to purge the entire contents. A fresh pb is not as awful as a prolonged pb.

I hope I am making sense.

Before I was filled too tight I could do a wiggle dance in my seat and get some items unstuck so, to Nana, the idea of your arms over your head isn't odd.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
