Lap-Band in Upstate NY

Recommended Posts

I went to my semiar and it went great. I felt a little nervous after I was there because I keep thinking that I don't want to do surgery but I really have tryed everything. I was pretty suprised how many people didn't do their homework and find out what their insuance covers and how the procdures work. Dr. O'Malley did the semiar because Dr. Thad Boss is out or something. Not sure.

Anyway I have my first apointment with my PCP to fill out that paperwork they give you for the diets on Thrusday and then he will send it in and then I wait to hear about the nutrition semiar.

It looks like everything is falling into place by itself and I am hoping to have the surgery done by Feb at the earlest. I can't wait I'm so excited.

Good Job everyone on the weight loss. After I meet with my Dr. its gonna be all about exercising and losing my 5% before my surgery!

Thanks again to everyone who has responded to me!

Melissa

GILTA - ROCK ON SISTA!!!

Dress looks great and you look so happy! You should be quite proud!

Things have been going well here....weight loss is slow, but until I have a fill I expect it to be. I"m now 4 weeks out (tomorrow will be one month) and I've lost 18 lbs. I have an appt with O'Malley for the 13th and hope to have my first fill then. I am spurred on by the students and other faculty noticing my weight loss now. (Total of 38 lbs since starting). I too got to buy some new clothes, one pair of pants being an 18 - down from many 24's. My shirts are 18/20's now - down from 22's. Im targeting a size 14 - regardless of my weight - I have a size goal....since I've always carried my weight differently than most. I anticipate that at about 210lbs, I will reach my size 14. So - I guess that's 38 down, 65 lbs to go!?!

Best wishes to all - and keep keeping on! We ROCK!!

Melody

Hi All,

Things are moving along. I really was "bad" this w/e. I am due for TOM which I think is causing the cravings. I did give in and had some M&M's. I know I shouldn't but I ate them and then I realized what I was doing. I hope I stopped before it got too bad!

Melody - wow a month already? You are doing great! I am short and am just now getting into the 14's and I even got into a 12!

Melissa - it will be here before you know it. How was your appt with your PCP? Did they fill out everything?

How is everyone else doing?

Gilta

Hello all. I'm officially in Bandster hell. I can eat whatever, and I'm hungry. Thankfully my fill date is November 4th. Not soon enough, as I've gained back a pound. YUCK! But far from the 270 I started out at.

I'm working on my wii fit daily. Enjoying that. I can do the step aerobics, and then go into the free step for 20 minutes, and top 2000 steps. That's cool. When I started the 10 minutes and making 600 was difficult.

Anyone doing anything for halloween?

Nov. 4th is soon! You'll be ok till then

Congrats on the 16 being too big! That's great!

I go wednesday for my dress...she let it completely out and is going to fit it to me...that's good so I KNOW it will fit, but it would be nice to just have it be shortened...

So I called to schedule my next app w/ Dr. D...they're booked to December! My appointment is Dec 17th, and that's when he sends in the paperwork and i'll get the approval..and then my surgery date! I"M SO EXCITED I CAN"T WAIT!!!!!!! I can't stress enough how READY i am for this!

I'm working only one day a week at Sephora now...and marching band is over so i'm going to have SO MUCH TIME to go to the gym and work on ME. I will be in perfect condition for surgery by the time i see Dr D....even more so than now...i will make sure that there is nothing holding me back from it! I just wish I could get in to see him in Mid-November...maybe i'll get a phone call?

Hi everyone! I am back again. It's been quite some time since I've posted. I was getting cold feet and wasn't really feeling comfortable with Dr. D. I was only seeing him because my mom had to see him because of her insurance. Now she isn't going to do the surg, so I'm on my own. Everything seemed so rushed at Dr. D's. I would have an appointment scheduled and they would call the day before to say they were misisng something. That happened THREE times.

Two of my docs wanted me to see O'Malley. So I have started over with Dr. O'Malley. I had my first nut appt. today. Wow was this different than my nut appt with Dr. D's office. This was 2 hours of really learning what we needed to learn. We learned what we are going to need to eat, portions and a whole huge spectrum of other info with regards to pre and post surg eating. I have to schedule my psych consult. I go back to the nut for my individual visit in a little less than 3 weeks. I will have another appointment with her a month later. I feel a LOT better as Dr. O'Malley is the best there is.

So, starting over, but I'm totally okay with it. I am hoping surgery in spring lol.

Sometimes Starting over is the best start. I started down this journey in 2002, and quit, because it just wasn't right for me yet. Here I am 6 yrs later and banded.

you have to go with who you feel comfortable with! I'm sorry you weren't comfortable with Dr D. (i love him and his staff!), but I'm glad that you found someone who you do like!

Hey you all are in the rochester area... can I ask you a question. Well I will... My sister lives up there, and has had RNY. SHe's gained all her weight back, and is looking for someone to do a revision, or maybe a lapband over it. Problem she has is she also has nerve damage from her RNY. So I don't even know if it's possible, but she's asking me for information about a surgeon that may do it.

I'm doing good... just anxiously awaiting my first fill. I go for that tuesday.... election day. Are ya'll voting?

Hi Terrilynn,

sorry for my stupidity, but what is RNY? If she is looking for Lapband Dr.s I would suggest the group at Highland Hospital, Dr. Johnson is my dr. and is awesome. He's in the phone book under Dr. Joseph Johnson....he's in with Dr. O'Malley. Hope that helps....now tell me what RNY is.

RNY is the medical initials for a gastric bypass. She had it done about 15 yrs ago.

I haven't researched it, but from what I've been told, once you have RNY that's it...obviously no reversing it but I also believe that they will not do Lap Band on it....maybe i'm wrong?

Sorry I have been MIA. I have been traveling and then just found out my DH has to have some surgery.

On one of the chat groups I am on, a few people have asked about banding after bypass. Only one person said they heard of this before, but it was very unusual. As others said, I would suggest contacting the local MDs to see their thoughts on it. I would call all of them as I am sure they all have a different thought on it.

Things are going well otherwise. I am slacking a bit in the exercise so I need to work on that this week.

how did everyone's week go? I had the opening of the new daycare so it was CRAZY this week...especially since so many staff had either previously scheduled off or called in sick...oye it was rough...2 migrane headaches..BUT i didn't go crazy eating! This is big for me! Usually i would go straight to Mc Donald's for days like that...while I did go once...i was good. Nothing large..no extra's...and i'm chugging along.

My next app w/ Dr.D is Dec 17th...paperwork, approval, and surgery date! FINALLY! I can't wait for this!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
