Do Compliments Make You Uncomfortable?

Recommended Posts

I have lost about 1/3 of the weight I need to lose and some people are starting to notice. Oddly enough, as desperate as I was for this sort of attention prior to weight loss, it makes me uncomfortable now. I am still so large and the compliments just remind me of how obese I am and how I was even fatter. I guess I never really wanted people to notice me losing, I just sort of wanted to be normal and unnoticed...not noticed for being obese, or for losing. It's weird.

It all depends on how I feel about myself that day. Some days I love compliments, other days I cringe.

I'm okay with a compliment here and there, but I don't like when people go on and on about my weight loss. There are some people that I see regularly and they do just that; they go on and on about how different I look, etc... That's a bit much for me. But I do enjoy just a quick compliment, then we can move on lol!

Yes, it does, started a new job and some of the women that I work with started giving me compliments, I honestly am not used to it and was uncomfortable. Its not something that I am used to prior to the weight loss.

Oh yeah, and after years of being ignored or deprecated, I'm not quite sure what to make of it all!
Recently someone said " My, you surely look very nice Today!" I smiled ,thanked them sweetly, but inside I'm wondering , was I plug ugly before? Wasn't I really not before? Is there an occult message here? See, I believed inside, I WAS ALWAYS COOL!😕

I can relate. Unlike most people who love to hear compliments, they make me really uncomfortable. I don’t want to discuss my body or be reminded that people are looking at me. Like a previous comment I am ok with a quick “you look great” and move on but the gushing on and on and personal questions I am not looking forward to. Maybe it won’t happen too much but I am anticipating it just in case.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
