Hey, just wondering does anyone have any advice on what your macro targets should be post op. Im trying to work out whats a good goal to set with macros. Im aiming for high Protein and high fat with low carbs but wondering does anyone have percentages that they try to hit?

I personally aim for 100g of Protein a day, and I try to keep my carbs under 40g. The app that I use, MyPlate, does keep track of my fat, but I don't have a goal that I'm trying to hit.

Part of what makes the sleeve successful is calorie restriction. So by purposefully eating high fat, you are at least partially defeating the purpose.

What I did was focus on getting my Protein first, 60g per day. And then I kept everything else lowish fat and carb. Early on just getting to your protein goals is hard enough, without trying to hit any other macros.

Oh no I understand, im eating relatively high fat is what I mean for example my total daily caloric intake is around 800cal atm but im getting around 70-80g Protein and im just wondering if anyone has percentages of how they split their carbs and fats thereafter. My first goal is to.acheive the protein target and goal 2 is to stick to my calorie target I just want to know how to split my carbs and fats. Im using myfitnesspal and.it asks you for your targets thats why im curious to hear what other people set.

Following. I asked my NUT at my last appointment what target to put for carbs, sugar, fat, etc, and she just said to aim for the 70+g of Protein. I was a little frustrated. Then again, she is worse than useless.

WOw! I'm in my 7th week post op and don't eat 2 cups total of food a day! I WISH i could eat that many veggies. I miss veggies (I average 40-50g of veg/meal). I average about 35g carbs, but about half of that is benefiber.

Yup same thing im getting too, its hard to know what foods to eat if you don't know how to split the macros, i can easily find foods that will build up to the Protein goal but I want to know what way to split the carbs and fats. Cause in essence all food is made up of the three and knowing which way to split things helps in forming a well balanced diet.

Im meeting my surgical team tomorrow for a check up so will ask them and see if I can get some advice. Thanks for your input.

This represents a theoretical "daily total" macro split for you, separated by the different post op time ranges. Most people will eat 1-3oz of veggies by weight, which might be 1/2-3/4cup of veggies per meal (in the later stages: 6mo-1year), or some variation of that. It is not implying you should or could eat 2cups of veggies at 1 meal. It's saying aim for about 60g of carbs at the 6mo-1year mark (as an example), and 60g of fat at the 6mo-1year mark (as an example) and that's daily.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
