What did it feel like for you when you achieved your goal weight?

Recommended Posts

I am almost 15 months Post Op (RnY Bypass). My goal weight is 165 lbs and this afternoon I weighed in at 170.0, only 5 lbs away. I am starting to feel a lot of emotion about my journey. It has been a lot easier than I thought it would be and the weight loss was slower than I expected but it was steady. I now find myself wondering if I am going to stop losing when I reach 165 lbs or will I continue? Will it have to be a daily thought to eat a little more than I am eating now so I will stop losing? I am excited for Thanksgiving and know that I won't have any problems eating correctly and not over eating, Once I set my mind to something I have no problem achieving it, I almost enjoy the challenge.

I would like to hear from others on how they felt as they approached their goal weight. Was it hard to maintain or did you keep losing?

Hope I reach mine before I get old(well older!) And die. What's the use of being thin, scrawny and no longer the shape of a sausage if the only people pleased are your pallbearers because You are easier to carry. Dang it you're an corpse, and there is no fun or future in THAT!

It felt like a Tuesday. No fanfare. I fluctuate (being a girl that has occasional food fun) but I don't stress too hard about it. I set up other goals (not weight based) so that once this was achieved, I had something else to focus on. I need goals apparently.

Congrats on your success!

I had a moving goal. I have ended up lower than I ever imagined I might.

Goal 1 - getting to ‘not obese’. Goal 2 - getting to BMI normal. Now I am BMI mid-range.

I had mixed emotions. I really miss that slow steady drop 8n daily weight. In fact, I needed to work just a little to ensure I did eat a bit more to stop the loss, as I am pretty thin now. But at the same time I worried I wouldn’t stop losing!

I have added a fourth ‘meal’ in the form of one intentional snack, to get the calories up a bit, especially as I am enjoying exercising so need a bit extra calories.

There isn’t a lot of info here about that shift from losing to maintaining, but it had its challenges! And it’s high points - you are THERE!

As my handle indicates, I've had many "victories". Back in 2005 I went from 263 to 153 over about a year of sub-1000 calories a day + (~900 calories a day of exercise). Naturally I felt pretty exhausted during the year. When I hit my lowest weight, I had two thoughts:

  • Wow, after losing 100 pounds, I'm still fat. (As I grabbed the ever-so-tiny "spare tire" around my waist)
  • The other was "Now what?" (I'm goal-driven so as soon as a goal is reached, I have to find a new goal)

This is stupid, but I'll say it anyway. I liked to run as fast as I could and jump as high as I could when I went out to get the mail. I felt like a sports car with my newfound lower center of gravity, and faster acceleration due to the huge mass reduction.

I don't consider myself one to enjoy clothes shopping, but the secret truth is that I did enjoy it.

Regarding still feeling fat, I've read that it takes the mind longer to "come around". I would not have believed it, but it was true. Unfortunately, I didn't stay the correct weight long enough for my brain to finally realize I was the body size and shape that God wanted me to be.

I have a ways to go, but I'm 80 pounds off my highest weight, and I will be ecstatic once my weight starts with a one :)

For some reason losing weight this past week has been very easy (I am almost concerned at how easy it was). I was in Western New York the week of Thanksgiving visiting family. I really expected to gain a pound or two while on vacation but much to my surprise the weight just kept falling off.

I got home from vacation yesterday and even with the 16 hour drive each way and Thanksgiving week I am down about 5 lbs. I weighed this morning when I got up and was happily surprised the scale told me 166.6 lbs. My goal weight is 165 lbs so I should be there later this week.

People tell me I am too skinny or it doesn't look like I weigh that much. My wife says I am too bony now and misses hugging a well padded man.

I get the feeling it is going to be harder to maintain my weight where I am then losing my weight. I don't want to lose any more and I definitely don't want to gain any of it back.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
