Newbie - any advice in general or for psych evaluation?

Recommended Posts

Good Morning! I just had my first appointment with the bariatric center last week. I met with the surgeon, a nutritionist, and had blood drawn. All of my blood results came back great (I’m the healthiest fat person I know! Lol). Next up is the psych evaluation. I am curious how that went for others and what should I expect? I have a questionnaire to complete but they did say the appointment will be at least 2 hours so what was discussed at your psych evaluation and anything I should know? Also any general advise for a newbie that is hoping for surgery early next year? Thanks in advance!

Its pretty structured - memory/iq(ish) test, vocab test and a true/false(ish) test. then a discussion about your support system and alcohol use. Not much to prepare for.

Mine was 2 hours. Most written questions , true and false questions. Many questions where the same but in a different context. Basically they are checking for eating disorders and mental health issues. Most of the visit was conversation was very laid back and just chit chat to make sure your head is on straight...Had my eval the end of Sept. Surgery date 12/11

I remember discussing my reasons/thoughts about surgery and life after. I was honest but cautious (didn't want to send redflags that didn't exist, or seem unwilling to contemplate anything further) But I was completely myself.

Safe Journey!

My experience was very different. It was short, 20 minutes at most, and felt more like a consult with a nutritionist than a psychologist. She grilled me a lot about my eating habits which was uncomfortable because obviously they weren’t good, otherwise I wouldn’t be there. She was particularly concerned with sugar intake. Not what I expected but that may have been because she worked directly in the surgeons office. She only took cash, which I thought was strange.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
