How important is the liquid diet for the 2-3 weeks after surgery? I just had my surgery Wed. November 7th and I hardly eat anything and am trying hard to stay on the liquid diet. But I moved on to stage 2. It is more fillng to eat baby food or oatmill and full faster than the liquid. But I was wondering if I should just stick to the stage one for the 2-3 weeks?

the liquid diet is so your stitches holding your band in place can heal best. Because the more solid the food the more the whole stomach churns (moves around) while digesting it. So the post op liquid diet is VERY important. Iv'e seen where many people have great success adding a protien suppliment to their liquids to help feel fuller. Which helps them stay on the liquids easier.

Thank You Telecia, I understand it better now. So I shall stick to the liquid diet as instructed. I'm sure it also cuts down on infections as well. Thanks again for all your help and good luck

I started on Protein Shakes as part of my liquid diet and it really helped. So much that I still have them twice a day. LOL

Try to folow the diet that your dr set up for you. In the long run, it really helps with the band settling in and the healing itself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
