How long after surgery did you begin working out?

Recommended Posts

I'm two week post op and would like to start going back to the gym. I've been doing a lot of walking but it's starting to get cold here and I'd like to move back on to the treadmill. At this point point I'm pretty pain free except for this pulling feeling near my belly button (is it a stitch, a hernia?? Who knows?) Just looking to do cardio now and then introduce weight again. How long did you guys wait after surgery to hit up the gym again?

Upon clearance from my team. 1 month visit they told me to increase walking nothing more, 3 month visit I was told I could resume whatever workout routine I wanted (none. I wanted none. 😒)

I was cleared to start working out at 5 weeks. 6 weeks is what my program initially said. Regardless I havn't started yet.

I'm 3 weeks post op and my surgeon said walking and swimming this week then I can do more physical stuff starting next week. He said after 6 weeks I can start doing weights and go to the gym. I'm really lucky that my insurance covers rehab and physio so I'm starting pilates this week and the place I'm going has put it down as post operative rehabilitation/physio so I can claim some of the money back on my insurance. We've got a gym at the hospital where I work, so thankfully that's only $2/week.

Walking immediately and full clearance at 4 weeks post op. My surgeon encourages 1hr at the gym daily and 10,000 steps

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
