When will the hair loss stop?

I started noticing increased hair loss at 2.5 months post-op. I'm almost 4.5 months out now, and I'm still losing handfuls every day. My hair is looking terrible. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to stop falling out? And how long it takes to start growing back? I'm very careful about my protein and vitamins, so I'm really surprised it's been this bad. I'm open to any and all advice. Thanks!

  • I’m 10 months out and still pull strands out in the shower occasionally...and my brush does it too sometimes ? small price to pay for being 2lbs from goal now. I try to keep perspective ??‍♀️

  • Most cures depend on you treating them as soon as you notice a tingle, as I said above mine develop overnight so that doesn’t help. As for salt it is about as effective as surgical spirits, tooth

I have the same issue. Hair loss started at 3 mos. I'm at 5.5 mos out and it still seems to be going. Almost every time I wash I get a handfulls, handfulls fall onto my shoulders and gather on my combs/brushes. My loose hairs are everywhere! I dread washing my hair because I hate seeing it and every once in a while I'm rewarded with minimal loss. My hair looks terrible. I am running out of creative ways to hid the thinning hair. I can see my scalp and as much as I like having shoulder-length hair, I think I'm going to have to cut it off to a bob.

I'm almost 7 months out and still losing hair, although it has slowed down. UGH!

I had my stylist dye my hair a much lighter shade to hide the scalp showing through. But everyone is different. I'm going to try adding L-lysine to my supplements. It was recommended by @GreenTealael

I’m over nine months out now, almost ten. Hair loss has most definitely slowed down to more of what it was pre op for me. I lost a good bit in the front and sides of my hair and seems that some growth has started.

Luckily my hair was super thick to start with but I can notice where it has thinned out even though no one else seems to.

I did cut off about eight inches last month in preparation for having to go even shorter for regrowing hair.

I am 6 months out... I had very thin/fine hair to begin with. It was to my shoulders, cut it half way on my neck. Really thinking about cutting more off. Dietician says take my vitamins and eat enough protein!

Many one try wigs?

One of my friends that has a sleeve has apparently had quite severe hair loss. She says it is her fault for not getting enough protein.

She cut her hair super short and currently wears a wig

I do believe LLysine mitigated the rate & severity of my hairloss, but *generally* RNY hairloss is worse than VSG; genetics determines everything

LLysine? Is that a supplement?

Yes it's an essential amino acid

Google Telogen Effluvium and LLysine

Lysine is the stuff that is found in red foods such as tomatoes

Thank you, GreenTealael.

I'm almost 8 months out and I'm still losing some hair. It has decreased significantly though. I haven't noticed regrowth yet but am looking forward to it!
