Does anyone else have an irrational fear of being put to sleep? I have never been put to sleep and just that one thing makes me want to back out!! I’m not going to back out but it terrifies me.

I can understand this, but it happens so smoothly that you don't even realize it.. it just poof... happens. Sometimes there is a mild ringing for a moment or 2 before you fade. But it's a dreamless sleep typically, you just wake up in another location as if no time had past.

Yes. I was terrified before my surgery. Almost backed out but thought about it and trusted the professionals who were taking care of me. You’ll do great!

I had surgery when I was younger and I was so scared I was crying a little and all I remember was the anesthesiologist saying, "Let me tell you a story about a princess" and I laughed during the entire story (I think the drugs were starting to kick in then). By the time I had to do the countdown from 100 I had calmed down.

It's a scary process but you can do it! :)

My only, fear(when I was still, entertaining fear) that I would. wake up And no surgery, would be done, the rationale- I was not judged worthy. of it. Nothing physical, just extreme unworthiness.😪😥

It isn't irrational. There are always risks. (There are risks when we get in our car to go somewhere, too.) It's OK to be afraid, and it's OK to admit to the staff that you are afraid.

I told my surgeon I was afraid. I reassured him that I didn't doubt his skill or anything, and he made it clear the reassurance wasn't necessary. (I mean, he's a highly sought after surgeon. Odds are, he's perfectly fine on the self esteem front. 😁)

We'll both be OK, though. I've been knocked out for several surgeries, plus the upper endoscopy that was a required test before this. It's super weird. Waking up, it feels like no time has passed. If you're anything like me you'll be super loopy. The hospital staff are used to dealing with people coming out of anesthesia; let them take care of you. ❤️

And 99.99% of all of them are smooth uneventful times. Surgeries get easier with each year, a lot of advanced from ether and chloroform when I was a wee Frustr8.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
