Hi everyone. This is my first post and I’m 9 days post roux-en-y today. I’m still on my full liquid diet and have my post op check tomorrow. I’m assuming he’ll advance me to a soft diet at that time (I’m very excited about this). My question is this: for the past 2-3 days I’ve noticed that about 30 minutes after my “meal”, whether it’s a Protein Shake, yogurts, etc. I find that I’m hungry, with actual hunger pangs. Nothing painful, just that hungry feeling in my stomach. I’m trying to up my Water intake between meals to fill me up so I’m not snacking all day, but I’m wondering if this is normal? I’m hitting 70 grams of Protein or very close to it each day, and my calories are between 400-600 most days.

Thank you in advance for your input!

I think it’s normal to be hungry, we are human beings meant to chew and eat solid food after all. Most of us, by the time we are post op at full liquids have been weeks or even a month or more on a liquid diet.

Once you are moved to a soft diet you may feel more full and feel less hungry.

Some of us just don’t get full from liquids, and I think that’s normal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
