I'm getting more nervous as I near the end of the preop requirements. I'm done with everything my insurance requires to get a surgery date. I have my final consultation appointment on October 1st. I'll get a surgery date after that. My nerves are getting to me as this becomes "real."

Just keep a list of all the things in life that will be better or easier after the surgery. Have another list of the problems you have now and how you expect them to progress if you don't have surgery. That should help keep everything in perspective.

I'm doing that as we speak. It's just such a life changing surgery and don't get me wrong, I'm definitely ready. I just dont have that great of a support system.

I understand the lack of a support system. But I just kept thinking I’m doing this for me and no one else. I’m the support I need. I do go to counseling and talking to people on here has help so much where i didn’t feel alone. Send me a message if you ever need to talk

Being nervous is normal and expected. Just remember why you are making the change, and the positives that will come of it. I'm 11 months out and feel like the year has gone by in a blink. I've done so many things in this year that I never could have done before (ziplining, jogging, buying clothes at any store I walk in, etc.) that I would never want to go back in time. The first month takes some adjusting, but after that, seems like it becomes the new "norm". There are many outlets on here to reach out to that will help get you through this.

Hi, I just got approved by my insurance company for the gastric sleeve last week. Once I heard I was approved and I scheduled my surgery for November, the fear and doubt started creeping in. Even though I have just joined these forums, they have helped me tremendously with questions and concerns that I have/had. Good luck at your next appointment! :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
