New here.. a little about me and my journey.

First and foremost hello to everyone. I am new here. My name is Lyndi and I am 34 yrs old and love in Western Canada. I had RNY surgery Dec.7,2017.

All my life I have battled with my weight. I have always been the fat girl. In 2014 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, stage 3 hypertension (extreme high blood pressure), high cholesterol and problems with my thyroid. I also suffered through horrendous menstrual cycles. I once had a menstrual cycle for a year straight. It just started one day and never stopped. The doctors couldn't find any reason why other than it could be weight related. In November 2014 I slipped on the ice and fell the result..I ended up with severe arthritis in both knees due to the trauma from the fall. My right knee also ended up out of alignment and no doctor would fix it because I was morbidly obese.

In February 2015 I approached my doctor and asked him to refer me to a local clinic that specializes on obesity. If I could get into this program that the clinic offered I could get weight loss surgery and it would be covered I wouldn't have to pay for it. To get into the program it is only by referral and is known to have a long wait list. But I knew I needed to do something as I knew I didnt have much left in me. So fast forward 18 months and o finally got my acceptance to the program and had my first appointment on August 2016. It was well worth the wait. They gave me access to a dietician, psychologist, a doctor and nurse. As well as various specialists and classes focused on helping me make the changes that I needed to make. As well as classes that talked about what to expect after surgery. In September 2016 I hit my highest weight. When I stepped on the scale and saw the numbers I cried. I weighed 517 lbs and had a BMI of 74% !! Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I weighed that much. I knew I was big but never thought that I was that big. In May of 2017 just 9 short months after joining the clinic I met my surgeon and signed my consent forms for RNY surgery. I started my liquid diet August 1st 2017 and was on Optifast shakes for my liquid diet for almost 4.5 months.

Because I was so morbidly obese I needed to get my BMI down to a safe number. Here in Canada they wont do weight loss surgery on you of your BMI is over 55% as it just isn't safe. I got my BMI down to 57% and my surgeon agreed to proceed with the surgery as I had no history of prior surgeries so she said that makes it a lot easier as well. I had surgery 7 months after meeting my surgeon and signed the forms. On the day of my surgery I was 412 lbs I had lost 105 lbs in just over a year prior to surgery.

I am currently 9 months post op things have been great. I've had absolutely no complications of any kind. I have no food intolerances and can eat anything. I am very much in practice of everything in moderation. My dietician told me that there was no reason I couldnt enjoy the foods i used to in moderation. So I do.. I haven't gained any weight or anything. Although at 9 months out it has started to slow down a lot. I currently weigh 337 lbs. In total from my highest weight I'm down a total of 180 lbs. I've lost a complete average sized man..lol I feel great but I am still a work in progress.

I still battle a few demons daily, I still struggle with self worth and self esteem. But every day gets better. The hardest part through all this has benlem dealing with the Hair loss is does nothing to help me with my self esteem issues. But I am been reassured that it will grow back.

The split picture I want even at my highest weight. I was only about 430 lbs in the picture with the black sweater. But I am wearing the same pants in both pictures. 20180707_191907.jpeg

I'm in Alberta. There is a lot of beautiful scenery here. Jasper, Banff and Lake Louise are probably the most popular in Alberta. Where are you from?

Lyndi84 I am in Central Ohio, in a small city, named Mount Vernon. Population 19000 if you count dogs, cats and bunny rabbits. I am old enough 72 to have been in BC and not on a school trip!
But my dream, and it's one I have yet to achieve, had this dream since young adulthood. I WOULD BEFORE I DIE LIKE TO SEE THE PEACE RIVER COUNTRY! There I admitted something few outside my immediate family ever knew. Will I ever get there? IDK but it is a pretty dream.
As the lyrics in South Pacific said
You gotta have a dream !
But if don't have a dream ?
How you gonna have a Dream come True?
I had my RNY last Wednesday Morning at 7AM, that was a dream come true.
This was at Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus Ohio, a Totally, wonderful place.
Now I have something weird, 5 days post surgery and the entire left side of my left abdomen is
purplish, warm to the touch and swollen, not where the left side ports are, they are exempted, I DO NOT know what caused,it, so I have to return to my surgeon Dr Needleman, have him doa strong look over, after that who knows? Hope I don't need readmitted, it is a very fine place but there's no place like home! And it,looks like an alien took me over.🍀👼

I've never been to Peace River myself but I've heard only good things about it. I'm sure you will get there one day soon. I've heard of Mount Vernon.. funnily enough I've never been to BC myself.. would love to go one day though. I am sorry to hear about your stomach.. I hope it all gets cleared up soon and is nothing serious. My left side was more bruised than the right and I bruised badly because of the blood thinner injections I had to have after surgery. I was told to expect more bruising on the left side than the right as a lot of the work and such was done on the left.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
