Anxious and Excited! HELP Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys:

MY big date is August 28th. It is LONG overdue, after being pushed back to get certain clearances from Pulmonology and Cardiology due to Asthma and sleep Apnea. Can anyone relate? I saw the anesthesiologist today, and he mentioned that in recovery before I wake up they may CPAP me, but Ive had so many issues falling asleep with the mast (claustrophobic) that Im nervous thinking about them putting a mask on my face and I can't breathe. Any comforting words of advice? Been working towards this since January, so I am very anxious to get this done AND get on my way to healthier living.

When they fitted you with the mask, did they try different styles? I used the WISP (S/M) which is just a triangle cone over the nose. My husband used to use the nasal pillow, but he was breathing through his mouth so he had to go to a full face mask. Maybe if you could use a smaller style like the nose pillow it would be less stressful?

Best wishes and I hope someone here has some other advice/support for you.

Hey, we have the same date! I use a cpap also and agree with the nasal pillow. It sits right below your nose. If you do happen to be a mouth breather but cant stand something on your face, they make a chin strap. Try and relax and know they have alot of experience and maybe ask if they could take it off when they see you are starting to come out of your anesthesia? Couldnt hurt to ask. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
