Starting my final attempt

Recommended Posts

So tomorrow morning (08/06) I'll start my final attempt at getting WLS done. I haven't told many people this time around (third overall) just my mom, grandmother, and my best friend. I'm super nervous that I'm going to sabotage myself again but I keep trying to tell myself that this is the best thing to do for myself. I work in surgery, bariatrics to be specific, and I know exactly what is done and why they are done. I know the instruments and every moment of the procedure like the back of my hand but I am a nervous wreck. I know if I get approval I can't back pedal this time like the ones before and I know I'll be fine the day of the procedure but this initial meeting is making me emotional and anxious as all get out. Any words of encouragement to help me through the night?

Look you know more than the others here that you will be okay. You have knowledge that the rest of us assumed we knew before our surgery, so be confident in your decision. You are worth this effort and journey. Health reasons forced me to look at this surgery and once I made my decision I never looked back, but yes I had doubts about how my life would change and so did my wife. The 6 months before my surgery we had some trying times, but it is all worth it! I do not know your history, but as you know health issues resolve with this surgery. It is not the easy way out, but so worth it. Please go forward and give yourself a longer more full life.

I guess I'm confused by your situation - you are just starting the process to get wls? Like in the seminar/initial appointment with the surgeon's office? But it is your 3rd attempt? You backed out twice, or where denied approval or something? Backed out at what point and why?

I was 'hot damn excited' to go to my 1st appointment because I CHOSE to get surgery. I was nervous to jump through all the hoops for 6 months, and nervous about the actual surgery a bit.

You CAN DO THIS. You want to do this or you wouldn't be making this third attempt. Get on the horse and ride into town woman!!! Go girl go!

Thank you for your kind words. I think I'm just letting my anxiety get the best of me. Just have to remind myself to breathe in and release it.

Not starting the process at all, the first time I started the process I was 18 and so very not ready to commit to such an endeavor. Then in 2015 I went to one facility and made it all the way through their program but I was not as ready for this as I thought because I could not shake my smoking addiction. My approval expired last November and I took some time to re-evaluate why I started this journey and have recommitted myself to seeing this through one more time. I have since changed hospitals because I work daily with the surgeon who would have done my surgery last year and am not 100% comfortable with having my coworkers all up in my business.

I'm very excited to get this done and start a life where I am not obese and live one where I am healthy. Thanks for your encouragement, I think more than anything it's my anxiety trying to make me worry.

I assume you trust your new medical team and the hospital, so you are ahead of the rest of us who had to climb on the gurney with blind faith! You will be in good hands before, during, and after. You will be just fine. Keep us posted, OK?

This appointment tomorrow will determine the amount of trust for the surgeon and staff. I changed facilities due to not wanting my coworkers having to be all up in my body business, if you catch my drift. I think I would be more at ease with people I don't work with on a daily basis, so this venture will be one of blind faith for me as well.

I will definitely keep you up to date. It's nice to have people who know what's going on but I just can't go throwing the information around open in my personal relationships because of biases of the people around me. Last year when I had approval but couldn't get ahead of quitting smoking people were constantly asking me when I was having my surgery and I was left feeling like a failure because I couldn't control myself. Anyway, I'm rambling now but I wanted to say thank you for your response. [emoji16]

Look for people who are sincerely are interested YOUR success. Ifbtheu ask How they can make your weight loss journey smooth and uneventful that is an excellent choice. Are they, interested in how you tick, your hopes, your plans, your dreams for the future, you are not merely flesh surrounding a stomach, you are a PERSON.

Hmmn You were allowed to go to a different hospital/surgeon? One of my Bari-friends in Columbus works at Riverside Methodist Hospital. They require their employees do all their, procedures "in house" . If you do go to another local 🏣hospital, you had better have an air-tight excuse like "you were unconscious and,you next-of- kin signed you in there and you.left as soon as possible."🏣

That's just one of many reasons this forum is a godsend for all of us. Here you can vent, get support, understanding, and even some tough love now and then. :-) You are not a failure. You recognized before when WLS was not the right thing for you at the time, so you paid attention to your intuition and best self. You've done a lot of work, and now you feel ready. Let NO ONE stand in your way. FORWARD!!

Whew, lort. If my place of employment wants to dictate where I receive my services they can either provide them free of charge to me (as an employee) or pay me a hefty raise. I have also not told any of my coworkers nor my management team and when I request my time off for recovery only my department head will be on the need to know list.

So my appointment went well, considering. I have to start the process now with the nutritional education class and have an EGD before moving forward. 90 days nicotine free is a requirement which I had my last cigarette today. So in the next 90 days I have a host of appointments and things to get in order. Yay.

So we might be looking at November for a surgery date? You are not the only one, somebody started a November 2018 forum thread. so there are at least one or two on Bariatric Pal. I'll look and see if I can find it in a minute. In the meantime, in between times you have all of us as friends. We have all kinds of people, gay, straight, bi- the world contains them- we are a small micro of the world .But each and everyone of us will try to help if we can. We have had our sorrows but we've had victories too. That's just how l8fe is.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
