Surgery done!! And listen what happen with my nurse prep

Recommended Posts

Had surgery today all went well. Already walked and blew in my new toy. Pain not so bad more when I sit up to go walking etc. Sipping has gone well, try to have an ice chip but really got nauseated but did not throw up.

So I got to the hospital the nurse that prepping me weight me.in and said you don't weight that much. After 8 days of liquid down to 218 started with my jitters of backing out thank God for my husband honey you are doing it for your overall health. Then again when doing paper work and more prepping she said you really don't need this surgery my husband gave the look. Again got nervous and my husband said to me and the nurse you are doing this for here health.. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and my BMI was 39.8 t hyroid, joint pain etc.. then finally the nurse relaized be use my blood pressure was going crazy.. I should have said look at my chart because every dr visit and appt they always to my I am obese.

Again everyone thank you for your amazing support.

Congrats on your surgery! It always amazes me reading stories like this, you'd figure the nursing staff would know better.

@ newme,in fla, that is curious reaction from that nurse, maybe she thought you were doing this for cosmetic reasons?
Well you know what brought you there, what you are hoping to lessen or end influence in your life and what your final goal is. I would say that makes you 3 times as smart as her!

Yeah isn’t crazy the stuff staff can say!!! Congratulations on your surgery! My spouse just had it on Tuesday but had to stay in the hospital last night again, can’t barely keep Water down and very nauseous. So when the day nurse brought in the evening nurse to introduce her to us she asked (while my spouse was dry heaving mind you) so do you think you’ll be able to go home later tonight? My reaction are you kidding me?! Can’t get any liquids. I can’t believe the nurse even asked that question!! If sent home would be back in er or hospital in a few days dehydrated dumb dumb!!! Another fine example of they should know better!

I would not have been so nice. It's not anyone's but your surgeons place to say something like that. Good for you for staying calm and hats off to your husband for keeping you there. Good luck on your recovery!!!

Your nurse had no right saying the things she said to you. She is not your doctor or a "DOCTOR!!" Should have said something to your surgeon.

As a nurse, I CRINGE hearing that. As medical professionals, we need to stay in our own lane, know when to speak, when to listen, and when things are none of our business. She is supposed to be a supportive presence, not a demoralizing one.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
