Hey!

I'm new around here and thought I'd say hello! I've been on the fence about WLS for years but figured it was time to make some changes when my doctor brought it up at my last appointment. I've spoken to my insurance and they've stated that WLS is covered and I have a consult with a surgeon next week. I really hope I'm approved, am covered financially, and actually get to have WLS (gotta be specific with your prayers, right?). For the first time in a while I feel hopeful about my future and the goals that have seemed so far out of reach for so long.

Congratulations on finally making the decision to start on this WLS journey. I too had it suggested by my PCP a few times and had no interest being I knew nothing about it other than my brother having a band several years ago and it failed. I went to see my surgeon to repair a hernia and he convinced me to have WLS after descibing it in detail. I am just about 2 weeks post op and I couldn't be happier with my decision.

Thank you! Congrats on being post op! How has your recovery been? Any pain or issues with Fluid intake? The pain post op is one of my bigger fears regarding surgery.

Recovery has gone very well so far and I hope it continues. Pain after surgery was intense but the only reason I got a really good taste of it was because the nurse giving the pain meds told me if I was able to sleep than the pain was not severe enough to warrant the meds. I woke a bit later in A LOT of pain and had the med nurse come back in and put me on them. It was an intense moment but once the meds kicked in I was good to go. There was pain from gas and the incisions but they were manageable. Fortunately I was able to stop taking the tylenol with codeine they sent me home with the 2nd day post op. Still some pain from gas and the incisions but minor. I know everyone's experience is different so I wish you the best of luck with it all.

That's good to know. I'd like to think that I tolerate pain well but I've never had surgery so 🤷🏿‍♀️ who knows? I hope your recovery continues to go well [emoji3]

As a example iblivebin Ohio and I was surprised how many Buckeyes there were and 3 of us are having our surgeries in the same city. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, our locations vary, we may all have different life experiences and sometimes viewpoints but we all like to help.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm from Houston and 27, going on 28. I'm trying not to dwell on the fact that I've let myself get this obese but it is what it is at this point. I'm hopeful yet nervous about the whole process and it definitely would help to talk to others who are walking the same path. I don't know anyone in my area or life who has had WLS or is in the beginning stages. I know there are in-person support groups as well but I'm sure I'll gather more info at my consult next week.

Oh Nic Darlin' you are from a GOOD area for support. There ate between oodles and a gangoozel of Houstonians on here I joke there must be a big poster at Doctor Offices and Hospitals in that area of Texas. It must say WANT EMOTIONAL SUPPORT? GO ON LINE AND JOIN BARIATRIC PAL! You can't swing a 10-GallonHat without hitting a Houstonian! I would say my bestest Bari-pals hail from Houston , Dallas or Fort Worth. And you rank among the smartest because you are seeking it at such a young age. Your skin will firm back up to smoothness. My poor 72 year old hide mfff! It says You used me , abused me, stuffed me full of blobby fat, now you expect me to get with the program and smooth out? Ain't gonna happen, go purchase Shapewear with the money you save on food, sleekness just ain't gonna happen. You get what you get. So I will live with it. Just pray at my age I don't find a lover at MY age, once I disrobe and everything starts rolling out I may resemble Janna the Hut or his wife Guardalla. But at least at 72 I may luck out, his eyesight may be failing and he won't notice..
But here I am , Bariatric God mother or Granny to you all, much life wisdom but trying to better my life like everyone else. We are All Works in Progress, if after my surgery I don't Dance in the Sunlight I will happily Hula Hoop in place, knowing I have a better future and longer life ahead. And until someone tries to throw dirt over my face I will Rock It with All I Got! That's Me Frustr8 the Bold, the comedy relief of BP, I may startle you but I'll never make you yawn! And I love most Everybody!😛👍😛

So welcome also @pugmom234. I know you said you're about the same age as Inc above here. @ J San may have seniority when it comes to surgery status but I guarantee there is NO ONE older than me active on BP, that's why I have appointed myself the Bariatric God/Grandmother. That said I must have been a case of arrested development because it took YEARS to decide to seek weight loss surgery. And now I am bravely marching forward toward an RnY bypass on September 5th. It will be 3 years in August since I started on this trek and my journey was not one you would wish to emulate. Many twists, many turns, roadblocks, quicksand of doubt, but Yippee Skippy it will be over very soon. With a pen name like yours you have got to be an animal lover, well I am owned by 2 female kittycats who allow me to live with them as long I provide enough food and adore them 23 hours of every day. I am allowed 1 hour a day total to go to the human litter box. And as you have noticed with your dogs each one has their own personality. Squeaky if she were human would be a cheerleader, bouncy, self-confident, she feels the whole world🌎loves and adores her, some days I think she needs kitty Ritalin. If you try reprimanding her, she looks over her shoulder like "Whatever" and resumes what you interupted. Now her sister Cassie, she would be class Secretary or a library aide. Much more subdued but extremely loyal, and when Squeaky isn't there to overshadow her, there is no one more loving. And the 2 of them complement different facets of my personality. Can you tell I am pussycat- whipped? Oh I admit it!
If either of you have any questions please ask! I pride myself at being a pretty fair resource person but if I don't have an answer someone else on Bariatric Pal will.

Hey! Another Buckeye in the house!!! I live near Cincinnati and will have my ESG done 9/25 at Journey Lite. Very excited! Kind of odd how I came to decide on WLS....never thought about it as BMI is 31 so thought I would t qualify. Then I heard about esg and balloon procedures. Once I looked into it I scheduled a consult the next day. Hoping it’s the right decision, because it feels right! Love the support here
