Coffee on 2 Week Liquid Diet?

Recommended Posts

So I start my two week liquid diet in the morning. The literature my surgeons office gave me for my pre-surgery diet said that I could have coffee. I’m confused by that though. It also says I should only have Clear Liquids. Then it goes on to say I can have G2, which is definitely colored. How do I make sense of all of this? Are any of you allowed to have coffee and G2 on your pre-surgery diet?

I would call your surgeons office for more clarification. Part of my 2 week preop diet is no caffeine, so real coffee is a no-no. The no caffeine rule also extends for me 4 weeks postop. It's gonna be a really difficult 6 weeks... My allowed clear liquids are Water, crystal light, G2/vitamin water, broth, sugar free Gelatin, sugar free popsicles, and Decaf coffee or tea. Clear liquids 24 hours before surgery for my surgeons requirements.

sometimes coffee without Creamer is considered clear liquid. but My surgeon also said coffee was a no no....especially after surgery because it's too acidic. I tried to quit this last week....but I am a couple months away still. I broke down...could not take the headache... I guess cold turkey is not the answer. Good LUCK!!!!

My surgeon said coffee or tea with no creamer was fine. They even offered me some the day after my surgery at the hospital! I however am not a coffee drinker.

I think there is some confusion about your two week diet. It makes sense that for the two-weeks prior to your surgery, you would be put on a liver-shrinking, ketosis-inducing low carb/low fat/low sugar diet. A day prior to surgery, it makes sense that you would only be allowed 'clear' liquids in order to ensure there is no residues in your GI-tract. It doesn't make sense that you'd be on clear liquids for the full two weeks.

"Clear liquids" don't mean 100% clear. It means "See through". It doesn't matter if it's colored. With the coffee, before surgery is fine, but understand that you'll want to avoid it for a while post surgery due to several things coffee/caffeine does. It pulls Water out of our system so, right after surgery when we are struggling to get our water goal, it's not a good idea to have something reducing our water levels. If causes increased acid production, which is bad during healing. Caffeine also binds to Calcium so you'll want to make sure there is some actual milk in your coffee to allow the caffeine to bind to that calcium, rather than in your gut.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
