Anyone try bananas? When?

Recommended Posts

I know we need to wait quite a while before raw fruits. I assume because of how fibrous a lot can be. But has anyone tried bananas? If so, how early and how did they go? I’m anxious to try a couple options I’ve made in the past including pancakes made from bananas and eggs only and I have a Yonanas machine to make heavenly soft serve out of just bananas.

You should ask your nutritionist. I ate bananas with no issues week three after surgery.

Use caution, as a post yesterday showed not everyone has a good reaction to the sugars in fruit and bananas are real high on that sugar. When the times comes make sure you dont have to be anywhere for the next 4-6 hours in case you end up sitting in the bathroom all morning

Ask your Team, they were in my plan from stage 3 or pureed/semisolids (1 month), but I didn't try them until about 3 months, didn't like them, then again now at 8 months in smoothies

I think I had them at around 4 weeks, they made me really gassy, didn't start up again until 2.5 months and now I probably have three a week?

This cracked me up. My wife cannot stand bananas. Not sure if it's a textural thing or the flavor (maybe both) but she hates them. I pictured her reaction whenever I eat one or make something out of it. That scrunched face and the "YUK" statement coming from her mouth. Feel bad for you that dislike, oh what you are missing. (Probably not)

To OP, is there anyone in your house that eats them? If so tell them to give you a slice when they do and see how you react to that piece. Instead of eating the whole thing and possibly having a bad experience, or not liking it after one bit and having to chuck the remainder. Good luck with the taste test.

I have to sliced bananas waiting in the freezer for my stage 3 or 4 to make some goodness!!

One of the first things I ate after liquid. I still eat one almost everyday.

I’m 3 weeks 3 days post op and as I posted yesterday I had a terrible experience with a few thin slices of bananas in my oatmeal. Honestly , I think it was the worst experience I have had with any food post op. I would definitely start very slowly with banana and perhaps not have it on an empty stomach which I think may have have contributed to my quick dumping experience since it was Breakfast .

When is it allowed on YOUR plan? That’s the best place to look. You trusted your surgeon to cut you open, trust your surgeons diet advice.

They weren’t on my plan for six months because they are a high glycemic index fruit (ie lots of sugar). Even now I save them for before a 6+ mile run. They are a treat not a staple for me.

Alas,
I was hoping no one mentioned the sugar so I could keep eating them... Giving them up this week

I ate a small banana in week 3 with no issues. I chewed it very slowly. I also used them in smoothies from week 4, a half of one. Make sure they are small or eat a half of a large one. I will be having a small one for breakfast tomorrow actually.

Gross, slimy, nasty furry foul food. Its white too..isn't white bad??? Nature keeps trying to kill them too...google it. Pestilence has tried several times to wipe the world banana crop and genetic modification keeps those raincoat wearing suckers in the market. You know what's sad too, my new tummy is shaped like a banana!!!!

They are good carbs & the less ripe the less carbs. They are perfectly ok to eat especially pre-workout. Carbs before exercise & Protein after!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
