Pre-Op Diet question

Recommended Posts

Good evening all. I have noticed several on here that I have various pre-op diet regimens. My doctor has me on a sugar Buster diet up until two days before and then it’s all liquids. Is this normal? Has anyone else done this?

Many (but not all) doctors use a VERY low carb diet just before surgery to shrink the liver and make surgery safer.

I understand. Was just curious why some are shakes and liquids two weeks before while others like me are not. I don’t want to be behind the 8 ball so to say.....

I was told that the liquid diet was to shrink the stomach not the liver. This is from one of my nurses.

It varies by surgeon and patient, if you have fatty liver and a cautious surgeon, you may have a strict preop diet, if you have vet surgeon and skinny liver no preop diet and every variation in between.

I have a vet surgeon...who is actually a member of the board that certifies bariatric surgeons here. My liver was pretty good before surgery because I'd lost 35 pounds.

I still had to do a two week ketogenic diet "for extra safety." My surgeon is a very type A perfectionist. (great trait for a surgeon...wouldn't want to marry him...lol)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
