Struggles after surgery?

What are some of the things you've struggled with after your surgery? What resources and support do you wish you had more access too during this journey?

I wish I had forever-access to a nutritionist. Ours is independent of the surgeons office and doesn't take our insurance, so it's $150 a pop. You don't realize how many questions you'll have after surgery, and when issues come up.

Try emailing your hospitals bariatric nurse. I had my RNY Monday July 2. The head bariatric nurse gave me her card with her number and email on it.

My most difficult struggle still to this day (2 months post op) is getting in enough Protein and Fluid intake. It’s having to remind myself to sip every few minutes so that I get to my appropriate intake of at least 64 oz of fluid. I doubt I’ve ever reached my mark on both of these. I still try to get as much in as I can every day. Being that I work grave yard and a physical job, my routine for eating changes. Still not sure how to get enough protein in without getting tired of drinking so many Protein Shakes. I do need it though because I’m experiencing Hair loss as expected. There are days I feel Ike I’m failing and who knows if I’m even on track?

Does it still hurt when you drink? Two months out you should be able to drink pretty normally. No chugging, but not having to take tiny sips, either.

It doesn’t hurt, I have caught myself taking big gulps though from being thirsty while at work. Sometimes I feel those in my stomach and then I remember to do a few sips so I don’t over do it.

So long as it doesn't hurt, don't worry about it. liquids can't stretch out your sleeve. You should be able to easily drink 4-6 oz at a time now. (Again, not chugging, but normal-sized swallows)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
