Hello! I am a pre op patient. My doctor has recommended I have he sleeve procedure because of medications I am taking now. I have an autoimmune condition.

I know the malabsorption isn’t as bad with VSG as it is with RNY. I am terrified that all my other meds will stop working after the surgery- specifically antidepressants, etc.

Does anyone have experience with this? Unfortunately I called the doc office and the nurse didn’t really give me any info. Thanks !

Ask a pharmacist or your doctor, proper.

I have exactly the same worry! I shouldn't have the sleeve because I have reflux, and with the bypass my meds won't absorb properly! Im goin to work with my doctors to get liquid or chewable meds if possible.

Briswife15 —- me too. I have terrible reflux but don’t want my other meds not to work. So which do I go for?! Ugh. Thanks for the responses. I will have to see if I can get a message to the doc because there nurse couldn’t answer the question.

There’s a version of Lanzoprazole that dissolves in your mouth - I personally take one 15mg in the morning and one at night and it’s helped immensely with reflux- it’s also over the counter and tastes good. It’s the only dissolving form of the ozoles so you don’t have to crush a solid pill. But of course check with your surgeon before you do anything.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
