Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

Recommended Posts

@Megan done that n when I make them they just aren’t very good. I mean there ok but I guess my taste buds are different now. I look at some foods n the sight of them makes me nauseous. It’s crazy.

Can’t seem to find anything that I want to eat. Since surgery, food just doesn’t taste the same or make me feel the way I use to. I’m not excited about eating anymore. Everything I eat taste uneventful except mthe broiled salmon I make w New Orleans seafood seasoning n olive oil n cream spinach. That’s all that comes close. I use to go out a lot to brunch n dinner w friends for cocktails but not anymore. I have no desire. I have to find some new hobbies. I feel like I’m missing out but am still reminding myself why I had the surgery.
Enjoy the taste for food break if you have one. They don’t call it a honeymoon for nothin , it returns... viciously (spoken as a former Sleever)... alas I like @megan Sandler am constantly looking for delicious and nutritious new alternatives that I can live with for a lifetime and remain satisfied and happy with what I’m eating. So I always get excited to see what’s in your bowls 😋🍵. Do continue to share and inspire

Hello! I'm 5 months post-op. For a while I had no desire for food, but lately I stay hungry all the time and the old bad habits are trying to resurface. My taste buds changed and I don't like sweet flavors anymore, so wanting chocolate candy is a bummer because it doesn't satisfy the cravings like it used to. I don't understand why I am wanting something I don't even enjoy!!!

This is my current venture for the next few weeks. I’ll be getting the tiny avocados at Trader Joe’s, and making the salmon separately, adding in some protien powder to boost the content.

T look into whole 30, and Keto recipes I’m not a fan of Keto but it’s low carb. Paleo is also good. Whole 30 doesn’t allow sugar. They’re about taking control of food. We didn’t get here by being in control. I didn’t do this surgery to hate food. I love it, I just need to be in control.

@dixiesadd maybe it’s a Vitamin deficiency or something like. When it’s that time of the month I crave beef. I realized I was craving it because my Iron was low. Not sure what chocolate has in term of Vitamins or minerals though. Just a thought.

What kind of surgery did you have? A year out from my Sleeve, following initial and rapid success, my stomach turned into that of an infant and my ravenous hunger cycles went relentlessly every 2 hours! The hormonal redundancies for hunger (people think it’s just Ghrelin, actually there are 25 hormones to ensure your survival) returned! The weight started creeping back on till yeah, it all came back.

Today I craved sweets SOOO bad and boy is it frustrating!

My Vitamins have been a struggle because I keep forgetting to take the 2nd dose. I got the bariatric chewables and boy are they nasty. I've got to push through these and get the pills or another brand. I keep reminding myself that if I take them twice a day like I should they'll run out much quicker. I won't allow myself to order more until these are mostly gone.

@chell I use Celebrate chewy ones in orange flavor. It’s pretty good but I forget to take my evening pills. I started making sure I did because I don’t want to lose teeth or have any more ailments due to lack of Vitamins.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
